Google shows off Android 3.0 - the 'Entirely for Tablet' Honeycomb

I don't see why they are so expensive, they can't cost more to produce than a laptop can they?

Well if the ipad costs £529, we can assume some that level of of markup higher than other companies.

However, the Xoom has a better screen and chipset, has additional things like an SD card slot. I still expect the 3G version to come in at ~£500.

It's going to have to be something special I think to compete with the iPad if it's released at ~£500, SD card slot or not! iPad 2 isn't far off remember...

Even think the iPad is too expense for what is essentially a big iPod touch, I think if it they were around £300 then I'd be tempted to get one... If this Honeycomb thing is around £300 then I think that they may be on to a winner, especially if Android 3 has better audio latency than Android 2...

Any confirmed dates? And anyother options over than xoom? Phone Contract runs out march. Hopping if i get both together some company may offer a discount. Also next to no information about the windows version was hopping to see comparison before commiting.

Nice they all seem to be out in April. Asus have 3 models as well, one has a giant slide out qwerty keyboard. Not sure I f a keyboard would be useful though.

# the Eee Pad MeMO is a 7-inch, capacitive-screen mobile device with a Snapdragon processor and Android 3.0, priced at $499 to $699 with June availability;

# the Eee Pad Transformer has a 10.1-inch touchscreen and has an NVIDIA Tegra 2 processor, Android 3.0 and QWERTY keyboard docking station, Priced at $399 to $699 with April availability;

# the Eee Pad Slider has the same specs as the Transformer, but has a sliding keyboard, costs $499 to $799(£320-£500) with May availability;

They aren't aiming to please everyone. The Xoom was never going to be less than £500 as I stated in this thread.

A tablet with 8GB storage? I'm sure Archos have a few out there.

If you also happen to want a high quality capacitive 10 inch 1280*800 screen with Tegra 2 chipset, then you'll have to look elsewhere.

Even the Advent Vega was £250, and was severely lacking in most areas other than having the Tegra 2 SoC.

^^^ i understand what your saying but for me a tablet is a mere luxury and a plaything (i.e. netbook territory). I'm not going to shell out laptop money for one. I'm sure there are people out there that will... I'm just not one of them.

I'm keenly waiting for a decent android unit at a reasonable price to enter the market. In Canada there is the Samsung galaxy but its $600 - $700. Just too much.

Can't you get one bought in the US for $499 and then get that sent over. Realistically I don;t think a 3G tablet from a major manufacturer will be much less than $500 in the year to come.

Err no thanks at those sort of prices, tablets can take a long walk off a short pier.

I'll be sticking with my £199 Netbook thats just as portable, has a dual core CPU, 2gb ram, has 8+ hours battery life, 3g sim slot, 250gb storage, hardware keyboard, 4 USB slots, mem card slot, 10.1" 1024x600 res screen.

But wait..no touch screen & it can't play Angry Birds. Netbook must be fail..

These tablets are a prime example consumers getting fleeced imo...but they'll sell shed loads because they are so shiny.

they are useful for a business imo; you look great and professional and can do a lot easily e.g. quoting at customers house you can be writing notes, fill input fields, ticking boxes etc and then get prices, then you can show pictures of previous work, show videos of what you've done, other sites you manage etc.

i guess the price is like any new shiny device, they're high to take advantage of early buyers and then will hopefully come down. i'd have thought this wouldn't be the case as the technology is similar to what is currently around, but hoping that's true such as with 3d tv at the moment.
