GoPro 3

I've got to agree with the above comments, the 4K feature is a bit of a damp squib. 4K really isn't that necessary yet still, even on the professional end of things. It's a bit like the 120fps mode on the Hero2, it was a great feature but the resolution made it pretty useless. It was obvious that a future iteration was going to improve it, just like I'm sure the Hero 4 will probably be 4K with a proper framerate or something.

For me though, the 120fps at 720p is what I'm going to get a Hero 3 for. With Snowboarding and Mountain Biking I've found that you need all the frames you can get and by editing you can get some really nice slomo. Having used the 120fps mode of the Hero 2 a good few times, it will be fantastic with the better resolution.

I've got a Hero 1 and a Hero 2 at the moment, so think I will sell the 1 as soon as the 3 is available.

I actually just got back off holiday having tried the camera underwater for the very first time.... instant discovery is that you clearly need the dive housing or a lens fix, as its too blurry.

Somone on the same level as me, deffo for the 120fps ^^

Yeah, the 4K thing is clearly a headline grabber. More than anything its because Sony will be launching their action sports camera soon, which they have invested a lot in with an attempt to take a share of the market. By releasing something that appears far more advanced, the Sony coming soon looks old hat.

The only people using it as a headline are the 3rd party articles because GoPro certainly aren't.

http://gopro.com/ - Headline = "World's most versatile camera". Not a single mention of 4k on the homepage
http://gopro.com/hd-hero3-cameras - Headline = "12mp, 1080p 60fps, Wi-Fi Remote". Only mention of 4k is in the "Key camera specs" and is instantly followed by 2.7k.
http://gopro.com/cameras/hd-hero3-black-edition - Only one mention of 4k half way down the page as the last sentence of a whole section. It's not mentioned once in the opening introduction to the kit (but all the other modes are).

It's the stupid journalists' faults for flaunting the 4k as a headline :p

Mhmmm I can't help being slightly annoyed by the whole: "You have a choice of either the LCD Bacpack OR the Battery Bacpack" situation... it would have been nice had GoPro been able to squeeze an LCD with extra battery juice into it, instead of making it reduce the battery life by around 40%. I think it would have been possible too.

It's the only main flaw I can think of with the GoPro series.

I think the LCD screen has become a bit redundant now. Reason being...

The majority of the time, I find that with how wide the field of view is, its not really necessary to frame it using an LCD. Secondly, the WiFi backpack has been out for a few months now which you can use to get a live preview through a smart phone.

Given that the new models have WiFi built in with no need for a backpack, thats the option I would use.

Hmm didn't realise about the WiFi that's good to know, cheers!

Yeah, it was massively delayed, it was supposed to be out not long after the Hero2 launched. I would have bought if it had been available back in April, but instead it didn't launch until recently.

Just bought mine from the US store, getting it posted to my Shop 'n' Ship address in New York who will forward it on to me. Got a Hero3 Black, 32Gb Micro SD and Handlebar mount for $522 inc shipping and tax, so £325, a lot cheaper then UK prices.

Slightly annoyingly my GF bought me a Muvi Pro for my birthday last year. Whilst it's good for a bit of fun, I can't help thinking the extra dollar on a GoPro would be worth it when skiing. She'd be a bit miffed if I went out and bought something better so soon!
