Got My LG 55" OLED B6V yesterday and installed OHHH WOW

Been toying with getting this but really wanted the 65" version but at £3700 it's just beyond reach this time round.

Off to pick up the UE65KS9000 Samsung today instead for £2199. How far are you seated from your new OLED? I'm bang on 9ft for the new 65 inch which is the main reason we're going for it, think we'd strain to appreciate the 55" OLED at that distance hence the want for 65"

I sit 9ft from a 55" screen and you're right, the difference between 4K and well-uscaled HD is subtle. You can tell the difference but it's far from night and day. At normal viewing distances I think 65" is probably required to get the most from 4K.

Still has the general OLED issues with near-black and HDR performance, plus this particular model appears to have stuttering issues with HDR also:

Not what I'd expect at this price.

It does have the stutter issue but I do believe that LG are very near to releasing a fix for it, one of the av forums users had LG come to his house last week and install it, and he confirmed it resolved it.

I think it should be released more generally in the next week or two.

At the moment it's honestly an edge case, most people don't even have the equipment needed to see the problem, it requires owning a 4K Bluray player and some 4k UHD HDR blurays.

The stuttering issues are with HDR UHDD 4k BD`s.
and there is a fix already for it, just wait for LG to roll it out....

Nothing wrong with the performance on my set.
and i just tried out PC connect from my nvidia card tonight @hdmi 2.0 4k deep color 60hz
and played Gears of war 4 and it looked and played fantasticly no lag what so ever that i could detect or stuttering.

--------

also tried out PS4 again no issues....

about the near dark issues that is only a issue at default tv 50 brightness settings it clips lower black just beyond very very dark detail but can be fixed with 52 or 54 brightness..

I also tested 4k uhd blurays on my samsung player and yes there is stuttering but its not that bad its hard to notice unless its a panning shot from left to right or right to left.
though it is there, a fix is defiantly coming...

I mentioned the stuttering in point 8. above as well. Having brightness too high does leave you open to more obvious "noise" though in certain content. I prefer to keep brightness around 50 and lose some shadow detail.

sent ya a email regarding some niggles i have.....

and the harman kardon speakers on the TV are better than most high end LCD tvs this year..

I'm pretty sure the high end LG LCD tv's have the exact same sound system. Well my LG has a pretty epic built in speakers. Also a lot of sony tv's have brilliant built in speakers too especially the ones with the extra HUGE black panels on either side of the tv even better than LG's Harmon Kardon systems.

It seems to be a major focus these days as loads have complained most high end models now come with decent speakers.

Still I won't be using mine soon as my amp is hooked up.

np ;) weird issue ehh lol

Not seen the issue you mentioned with the noise/reboot here, and not using it on a PC or anything so no experience in doing what you're doing tbh.

Primarily bought mine for TV/Movies, with some light console gaming.

Yeah the speakers on this TV don't disappoint, obviously not decent sound system levels of quality, but I was genuinely impressed by how good they sounded compared with other TV speakers I've heard.

I would like to see them make a TV without speakers at all though, would lower costs and could instead focus on just the panel. I know this is technically a "Monitor" but I will ignore that.

OK guys that have this tv im pretty peeved at the fact my tv does not disable power going to the USB ports lol

I just bought some back lighting for my 55" and when i power off the tv the back lighting wont turn off :/

if the lights are on ,its running a compensation ,its as simple as that ,as for settings ,the ISF modes are good out the box ,turn all rubbish off ,and set brightness up correctly

Yes thanks for that, i left the tv off in standy and after 5 minutes the back lighting powered off ;)

few thank god hahaha.....

as for the picture settings yeah think i will do that also though would still be interested in knowing any calibrators around my area hahah

Theres a list of calibrators on AVF,be warned though ,a calibrated picture doesn't suit everyone

thanks again for the info :)

cant wait for the UHD Stutter/juddering fix it should be out this week hopefully ;)
then that will be my tv complete and full of awesomeness :D

For HDR film viewing I've found the following looks good to me, can't comment on games. Try them and see :)

HDR standard mode
Oled light 100
Contrast 100
Brightness 50
Sharpness 10
Color 55
Tint 0

Dynamic contrast medium (personal preference here, do check out the others - off or low is too dim to me though).
Super resolution off
Color gamut wide
Edge enhancer off
Colour filter off

White balance colour temperature warm1 (warm2 is too green!)

Noise reduction off
Mpeg noise reduction off
Black level low
Real cinema on

Back
Top Bottom
