US: Gotham (US spoilers)

..., of course they do! That is the point of a pilot episode?

Lots people will tune in to a hyped show like Gotham so the initial figures for the 1st pilot episode will be huge. However, once people HAVE seen it and stop watching by the 3-4-5th episode THEN it becomes the viewer retention figure that's all important.

Pilots are important to get a series going but if the figures drop rapidly afterwards then it's Bye Bye!

Saw first episode last night from.. somewhere

I personally enjoyed it and shall hope the rest turn out as good, pretty dark with violent scenes, good acting.

I'm not sold yet. I have the same problem with Ryan Atwood, and don't see him as Gordon yet. That mantle still belongs firmly with Gary Oldman in my brain. Obviously they had to cast someone younger, but they're big shoes to fill.

It's been so long since i've seen the OC the only image i have of him in my mind is as Ben Sherman from Southland so seeing him as a detective in this isn't a stretch.

Watched, mostly enjoyed, but got a bit wound up by what seemed like slightly off editing/foley/dubbing.

Will watch again +1 etc.

Missus really enjoyed it though.

You're right, it has been ages since The OC, but there's a quality among some actors that I can't put my finger on (Gary Oldman is one of them) that could play three different characters in a year, and somehow once I've seen them play that character, I can't see anybody else doing the job.

I'm not sure if Ben McKenzie has that. I'll give him a few more episodes before I decide on that though. :)

Very average. I hoped we'd get a great gotham show that didn't focus on batman. Instead we seem to have stumbled on a 'how many young villains can we stuff in' show.

Also Alfred is ******* terrible, what was that casting :/

I think i misread your other post, hence my reply, and get where you are coming from now.

I think whether you're going to like this show or not depends a lot on your expectations and how you judge it. If you compare it to or are expecting it to be like the Nolan series, then you'll probably be a bit disappointed. As Shamikebab pointed out, I wasn't sold on the casting of Alfred, but then I had it explained to me that there is a comic book version of Alfred who is very disciplinarian and hard, an ex-Marine, and I gained a bit more appreciation for this version. I don't think we should expect him to be like Michael Caine's version or the Alfred from the Arkham games, he's a different vision in this.

That's part of the danger of doing any sort of adaptation of a very popular superhero franchise. The Batman universe has been going for so long and been reworked so many times that some people are bound to be unhappy with the portrayal of certain characters/Gotham itself/the story etc. I do agree that they tried to shoe-horn too many villains in though, I think they were trying to grab people's attention so that they'll continue watching.

That would be from the original graphic novel Batman Earth One. Volume 2 of this is due out either later this year or early next year. I cannot wait!

it's more the fact he's a **** actor than the accent, though I find it strange you think there isn't anyone with a posh accent or who speaks "properly" in the army.

His accent wouldn't be so grating if he could act, I really can't overstate how woeful he was in Sherlock(and most things he's in).

I don't mind the accent, well it's the same as mine!! He's not a bad actor, He was quite good in Dog Soldiers! give him a chance! it's not like he's one of the main characters!!

I like him in the role and the accent doesn't bother me but who ever did his lines got it slightly wrong. A Butler never would call people "Mate" infront of his employer or their dependants. Maybe he would to his backroom staff in privacy, but not how it was done in Gotham.

Good start to the series IMO.

Perhaps shoehorned in a few too many characters too quickly (Ivy for example - No real need) and Selina being a witness at the murder scene was a bit
Hope they don't have too many characters meeting way before they should like they did in Smallville (which I could never get into btw).

Apart from that, good stuff.

 Where did I say I didn't think there were people with posh or proper accents in the army?? I said that he's hard and that he's an ex-Marine, I made no comment on his accent at all.

Good Start, although very crammed.

My only concern was with dealing with the Wayne murder right off the 'bat' in a few minutes. It needed way more Gravitas. Although it is a police procedural ( to an extent) so we are looking at it from the street.

I don't have any issue with the version of the story, since I'm a firm follower of 'Hypertime' http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hypertime.

(ep2)

Hmmmmmm... Not Bad! I can still see some potential.

Not as crammed with Every Villain in the Batman Universe this time.

Oswald is massively sadistic, Now there is some potential for a great character (before he actually becomes The Penguin). Okay I could see what was going to happen to the two kids in the truck waaaay before if happened, but it didn't make it any less shocking!

Fish is quite a good addition to the story, and Jada is actually quite good! and Phwoar!! :D

It's not 'The Batman Story'... it's the story of 'The Fall of Gotham' before Batman!

And Alfred was a little more 'Meh!' hopefully they'll tell us a little of his background (this version) so we know why he's not the 'Quintessential British Butler'

Still gonna keep going, hopefully Episode 3 will just get better then 4, 5, 6 etc...
