GPU prices go boom

Just how cheap does a card have to be for you to bite, these cards ain't gonna get cheaper

Nearly 2 years after release? A lot cheaper, i.e. roughly what the 9 series were at this point in their life cycle.

Get a room you guys; we don't take kindly to mining round these parts.

Seriouslah.

You're taking our cuuurds.
It's ok brah, you are so cute. You can have my used 'broken' old cards for free when I cash in my BTC in a couple of years.

I'm sure if he had mined on his desktop back in 2014 then next year he'd easy have £50K

With 4 gpu's back in 2014 he could make around 100LTC's per month with a year still to go I reckon he'd easily do £50k.. LTC today is $165 each..

Damn miners

PPPffftt.. He doesn't want any cards...he just wants to moan that "IF" he did he couldn't
Please do tell me how much money I can afford to spend on a GPU...

Some of us aren't buying on principle.

2 year old cards (actually more than that); mid-range; £500+? You're having a larf :p

And if the next gen are more expensive, again on principle, I'll be abstaining. I've got other hobbies where I don't feel like I'm being bent over by deliberate price inflation, cartel style.

Also lol at the post saying these cards were "cheap".

Boring, boring, boring.

I don't like POW mining (again on principle). It's a really terrible invention and incredibly wasteful of electricity. Each transaction is something like multiple thousands of times more power hungry than a VISA transaction (etc).

Cryptocurrency has proved to be entirely worthless as an invention/currency; it's just currently a speculator's toy.

I really want no part of it, profitable or not.

No, it's not about that at all. It is that you feel you have a entitlement to GPU's at a low price.

At the end of the day a GPU is a luxury item, regardless of whether it is £649 or £1100 for a GTX1080ti, it is still something that is a nice item. There is no justification for your ranting about the price of something like this. I'd like a GT-R R35, but don't because that is a luxury item and I can wait or save up for one IF I want one.
If it was an item which people NEED, like toilet roll, bread, milk, water, etc then your whinging is justifable.

Supply and demand is something which can affect any product or service and one vs another dictates the costings. You live in a material world with people who enjoy nice things, you just want them at a low down, cut price. You feel that if you stamp your feet then it may happen, well I'm sorry, sunshine, but the world doesn't work like that. I would quite like to fill my 13 slot motherboard with more GTX 1080ti cards, it has 3 un-used slots, but i am not doing because the card pricing is still high. But do I whine and complain about it, do I hell.

Thats a poor example. The car hasn't jumped up 20-40% from RRP like a 1080ti for example though has it?

It is a bit inappropriate chatting about how many bit coins you have and what you can get for them when some people cannot even game at reasonable settings because of price hikes or their principles.

Fair = Selling at RRP converted to local currency, and then lower when it becomes EOL and is replaced with a newer model

Exactly this.

Who's to say whats fair..

Point taken. But at the end of the day, it's a shame to see PC gaming dying because card manufacturers and retailers saw the dollar signs and price gauged a lot of gamers out of the market.

Actually I have only ever said that I won't be buying, because the prices are inflated to all hell and back. Never that the world owes me a "cheap" GPU.

I can voice my opinion and will continue to do so without asking for your approval, chap ;)

Esp since the premise of this thread is that GPUs are now silly expensive :p I feel my comments are actually completely on-topic and appropriate here. And also true.

GPU prices *are* inflated to all hell and back. Sadly.

e: I'm sure people are capable of assessing whether the market is inflated or not. You just have to look at a low-mid card like the 580. The 480 hit lows of well under £200 as it aged.

Then along came mining and those cards shot up to £450 and more.

That is inflation. Wanting the market to not be inflated by mining demand is entitlement, now? Well sure, that's understandable viewpoint coming from a GPU crypto miner, of which you are one of many ;)

You realise that Gibbo was the instagater of that discussion, right?

A R35 GT-R brand new used to be £55k in 2013, now they are £89k - what's the difference?

If you don't want to buy a GPU at what you consider excessive then just don't buy. But to lay blame at people who are willing to pay is not the fault of the person who is buying. It seems that most of the "gamers" who hate on the situation are the people who actually are just annoyed they missed out on being involved early on before the spike in initial outlay.

OcUK have GTX1080ti in stock at £679.99 which is there abouts the RRP, so nobody can come in and bitch and moan anyway, I just don't get it. A little time invested in finding cards at a price near RRP isn't actually that difficult

Also, I have checked quickly
Pallit GTX1080ti can be found for £700 online, Zotac full sized cards for £719 etc, all from well known etailers.
