AMD Threadripper is better at mining Cryptonight than a 1080Ti, so pick up some threadrippers instead of gpus please :D
“With 32MB on Threadripper we can run 15 threads very fast, and for CryptoNight that could allow Threadripper to get almost the same ballpark as RX Vega. Vega can go higher, but then you have to tweak memory and stuff like that. But, if you’re not tweaking Vega, Threadripper can be within the same ballpark, and it will be much faster than a 1080 Ti for example in CryptoNight.”

A stubborn part of me actually hopes the PC gaming industry does die a death (which it will if this continues) just to get it right up the retailers who took the **** right out of their loyal customers.
Yes supply and demand dictates prices. but at what cost? At the cost of loosing your industry?
I wonder how many monitors or gaming chairs OCUK has sold of late? It's not as if anyone is deciding to get into PC gaming right now.
They are making their bed. Lets see if they lay in it when everyone gives up on gaming PC's.

Once all this mining carry on crashes, which it will , they sure will come crawling back to the real customers who keep shops like this open, but for now there like drug dealers with lots of junkies to feed, shame really but this is what money does to people, hence the silence from the shop.

AMD Ramps up GPU Production - Blames Availability of Graphics Memory

http://www.guru3d.com/news-story/am...n-blames-availability-of-graphics-memory.html

Finally we now know why GPU price had gone BOOM over the last month or two.

It absolutely nothing to do with miners! They not blamed for it, actually severe shortage of GDDR5, GDDR5X and HBM2 memory chips are to blamed for soared GPU prices.

Guess AMD now have enough GDDR5 and HBM2 chips to supply through the next 3 months while Hynix, Micron and Samsung all three are busy mass produce 10-18Gb GDDR6 memory chips for Nvidia next gen Volta or Ampere gaming GPUs.

You must have not got the memo, it’s all the miners faults!

Paying too much for your car insurance? It’s all the miners faults!

Had an accident at work that wasn’t your fault? It’s all the miners faults!

Etc.

Well Lisa Su got the secret memo, it all Hynix, Micron and Samsung's faults by scaled down GDDR5, GDDR5X and HBM2 productions.

It's called supply and demand for a reason.

If your demands exceeds your supply, you're going to have a bad time.

If your demand skyrockets that certainly doesn't help.

And I sincerely hope nobody would be daft enough to argue that mining doesn't affect demand.

First paragraph of news article said:
There's a global shortage alright, mainly addressable to added demand due to crypto mining.

The memory shortages over the years has been due to manufacturers keeping the supply tight to keep prices high, it has nothing to do with mining.

If the truth be known I suspect that the % of memory used on mining cards is very small compared to the total market for chips.
