if this is due to Rockstar unable to cache/install any data to a HDD due to Arcade console not having one and game being optimised for lowest denominator and isn't present in the PS3 version because on that there is an install, then MS need shooting for not making the HDD standard - and i might just have to get the PS3 for myself and leave the 360 version for my boy was isn't bothered by such things "just because its GTA", but for me that would seriously cheese me off

I don't think the HDD not being standard for the 360 is the problem, well it's not the part that annoys me anyway.

What does annoy me is the insistance from MS that devs must assume there is no HDD. Why should the people who have put more money in Microsfts back pocket suffer inferior games just because some people are too cheap to fork out the extra cash?

They should just bite the bullet and allow devs to make games as good as they can be. If people don't have a HDD then tough ****, it's not like they can't just buy one if they really wanted a game that requires it.

I was just about to ask what version those gifs showing pop-up were on. I haven't noticed pop up once on the PS3 version. Been playing it for nearly twenty hours.

Yeah they are from devkit 360's (well the first is not sure about the other)

How is the PS3 version? The load times on 360 tick me off to be honest and the console noise is irritating as Niko speaks very quietly on the phone sometimes. Lack of rumble (No DS3 here) is a bit offputting but I'm sure I'll manage, I did with Burnout, Uncharted and DMC4 so hey.

I'll be picking up the PS3 version at midnight and I have my 'early' 360 version for my other friends.

when do you get the loading on the 360? Apart from when you start the game I can't say I have really noticed it on the PS3. There most probably is loading but it's just not enough to make you stop and think about it imo.

Looks like the PS3 may well have the 'superior' version after all :p (saying that I will probably still buy a 360 for the DLC later in the year )

Chances are that you will only see that kind of pop-up if you have a dodgy DVD drive. I used to see the same thing in Saints Row on my old 360, you would stop, car disapears and you are left sitting in mid-air. You could then hear the DVD spinning down as it tried to seek to the correct point before speeding up again.

It was about two months later when playing BioShock that my DVD drive finally died and was unable to read game data without freezing for 5 minutes.

I went out and got an Elite and the pop-up in Saints Row almost vanished completely and textures would load faster in BioShock.

Loading is before every mission for about 6 seconds, quite annoying. :o
