*** Grand Theft Auto IV - The Official Thread ***

Great fun so far, I was a little worried by the graphics at the beginning but I seem to have adapted to it. Niko is hilarious, if it's not his face it's what he's saying.

Not particularly enjoying the radio, the music is more that tedious RnB/HippyHoppy stuff and it leaves me cold and it seems to be on pretty much every station, should have a been a Vice City era station... I really need to turn the SFX down as the pedestrians yapping disrupts the radio anyway.

I find Niko walks too slowly, I always seem to be running everywhere and it's lucky that running never seems to run out. Car handling is very different I still keep sliding off the road when racing around. I like the fact that most cars now breakdown instead of clipping a lamp post and exploding in to a fireball like previous GTA games.

Combat is much better than previous GTAs which I found myself buying on release day for the PS2 before giving up and waiting for the easier to play PC version. Cover works well, and the adjustments to auto aiming to get head shots is nice. Had no problems with ammo, however I keep struggling to find nearby foots outlets, half way through one mission I was about to storm a house and had to wander off to find a burger place to get some health and left my partner standing on the door step.

Played about 8 hours, first one was 6hrs and no freezes and only a couple of pop-ups. No freezes at all so far on my 360 Elite.

Bedtime now but shall be back on 6pm tomorrow!

The ladders, why couldn't they make it auto climb and flush to the wall. I died on the bit straight after, I jumped on the left instead of going on the right :D.

I love GTAIV but it irks me the amount of features compared to San Andreas they have cut back. Its like 2 steps forward 3 steps back. Great game though. Really wonder what they have been doing for the past 4 years considering it took them 2 years to put all that stuff in San Andreas.

Exactly :(, im sure after purchasing GTA4 i will still prefer san andreas's features.

i might be Ghey and pick up a copy of san andreas for xbox :p

I considered SA to be a jack of all trades in terms of what you could do.

I prefer IV, as it feels like they've done less yet put a lot more thought in to each.

Quality > quantity, chaps. ;)

I used to like San Andreas, but after playing GTA 4 it feels like in San Andreas they put all that in to fill things up and it made it rubbish. GTA 4 is much better without all those features.

The weight training and most of the RPG elements in San Andreas were annoying. I was so relieved when I played the game and found out that they'd dropped them.

Getting rid of planes though was a bad idea.

I've noticed (at the same sharpness level) letting my TV upscale instead of the PS3 (to 1080P) is far more sharper, I just let the game run at 720 and upscale by TV now, it looks considerably sharper. :D

Sixaxis on this game is actually pretty cool too, shame I don't have a DS3.

I've been experimenting too because I'm picky when it comes to aliasing and whatnot and I agree it seems sharper by doing this :)

Having said that the aliasing issues arn't bothering me that much, it more the massive drop in frames when you go fast :/

Got my copy today, played for around 15 minutes before i got my first lockup, had to hard reset. :(

Not happy about that at all... luckily it auto saved literally 5 seconds before it happened.

Meh. I even said it was the thing I was looking forward to most.
Very surprising as all the other versions had it.

Dunno why they've removed so much stuff.

Hidden packages are now pigeons highlighted in orange, you shoot them once to get the 1/99 or whatever. (I think it's 100)

They are basically the same, but they called "Flying rats"
