When the subject here is a '£1k High Def TV'...

Just thinking that running 100 sharpness gives you the sharpest picture is like when you ask people what they think of a sound system and they reply with, 'yeah its only on 6 now and goes up to 35' :p

I'm not too sure what point you're trying to make.

100 "sharpness" will not give you the sharpest image on TVs. the purpose of the sharpness variable is just to tweak a poor input signal to give a better perceived image.

I'm pretty sure that my filter description is correct.

Cos the guy who brought up some rubbish about not turning the sharpness down on his £1k HD TV cos that defeats the point in having a HD set if you turn the sharpness down. Which is the exact point you have just alluded to aswell.

I have "alluded" your point because, to be frank, I can't fathom what you are saying.

But its not at literal as that, push it too far and you just get halo's and noise around things as the processing goes OTT. Its not like a camera lense focusing in on something to make it sharp!

What you describe here is the interference patterns caused by an over-aggressive high pass filter, causing ghosting of edges.

Can you do me a favour and sum up what you're arguing?

All I'm saying is that a sharpness setting of 50 will not affect sharpness on most TVs, while lowering the sharpness will apply a "blurring" mask at a varying aggressiveness while increasing the sharpness will do the same but with an "edge enhancing" mask.

I don't buy a £1k High Definition TV to take away all the sharpness that's supposed to be its main benefit in the first place.

Yes, that sentence I posted doesn't really make sense. But the one above is what I was trying to cover. I cant believe I'm actually typing about sharpness settings on a TV at 1am relying on some considered effort to get a point across.

Woopeee? Edge noise isnt really ghosting, its not really shifted pattern is it.

Ghost as in faint repeat of the image.... like a... ghost.

Seriously WTF. I was just raising a point regarding the post about 50 sharpness being the 'perfect' setting which some people seem to be mislead into thinking is whats best when it comes to HD, or infact cranking it right up to 100 in pursuit of the sharpest picture.

Strike of the geek or what.

You seem to have gotten really over-defensive about this and tbh I have no idea why =/

Chill.

I never said 50 was the best so not sure why you're arguing at all.

I know, let's all resort to insults, that will help everyone :)

Is there anyone you've not ****ed off around here? :D :p

Convolution masks and FFT's are part of my degree course and AV equipment/gaming is a hobby of mine so naturally I'm going to talk about the subject.

I wish I could play more but I'm calling people idiots on these forums in-between every 500 words of my report I write :p

I dont think I've argued with Kreeeee yet, come close a couple of times though :p

I love you too :)

Anyway, back on topic eh?

I have the middle and right islands open to me at the moment. Is there anywhere I can easily get a helicopter from and are there any cars worth storing bar the turismo and the comet at this point?
