Bummer, so it isn't related to the game but to the console.

Maybe try a more ventilated space and/or check for dust buildup that might cause overheating?
 
Is anyone else still having the disconnect problems? I've been away and not had chance to play GTA for a week and in that time the patch was released.

Last week i could get into a match about 1 in 5 but I've just tried 15 times and got disconnected from them all :(
 
hmm, worth trying the 360 over HDMI now? Happen to have a HDMI cable from ages ago when I mis ordered something years back, should still be fine I'd imagine, not sure how people rate is vs component/vga?

well if you've got HDMI why not use it? Its supposed to be the best
 
Was just playing darts and the game got stuck :(

It wasnt frozen though, i could still access the map etc, it just refused to calculate my opponents score. Annoying as i had been killing time due to an appointment miles away from my safehouse.
 
I played GTA4 on my mate's PS3 the other day and crashed it twice in 1 hour

like full on freeze the PS3 and had to reset it
 
After the patch I haven't had a lockup again on my PS3 and I played one hoour Multiplayer yesterday without issue so for me the patch has fixed the lockups.

I did find that in multiplayer last night sometimes the opponent cars would start to jump around making shooting much more difficult, could this be because of the bad ADSL connection of my friend I was playing against?
 
Yeah, when someone has a bad connection it looks like they're driving a shopping trolley from the way the car slides around.

Has anyone else has an awkward time with the online aspect of the PS3 version.
I keep getting disconnected for no reason when the game starts but my two mates who were on the same game didn't. This happened about 5 times before we could all get a game started.

I've never had a lockup though

After the patch I had no issues at all, I think I have the PS3 in the DMZ of the router.

Maybe you can check the NAT type setting, I think I have seen posts where people needed to change it from type1 to type2 or vice versa.

Same issue I was having. You don't have Be* + BeBox do you by any chance?
