*** Grand Theft Auto IV - The Official Thread ***

Im trading it in tomorrow, uncompleted, unless I get an urge to finish it in the morning, I must be on the last mission, and its ANOTHER mission where you have to drive miles then the mission starts its just a massive long winded process.

Its got some good moments and the engine is great but such a drawn out load of poo.

I think it helps if you do some of the extra things while doing the story missions. If you rush the story then it all seems a bit pointless but it's good fun.

I really want to sell, but I know that I'll end up buying it back when the downloadable content arrives. So I think I'll just hold onto it. God damn it's boring though.

I traded mine in at about 55% complete, after yet another stupid mission where you have to chase someone on a motorcycle. One mistake and they get away. Shoot out the rear tyre and they don't slow down. They get through all the pedestrians and obstacles without a problem. You slam into one and you get the fade to b/w bang, crap I'm dead screen.

The retry is fine but it should reload you with your health, armour and weapons as they were when you originally started otherwise it's pointless. Whichever way you restart, it's more aimless trekking around to the mission collection point, then the mission start point via the gun shop only to get a few minutes later, "xxxx got away". Enough!

I will try it again if/when it comes out on the PC later in the year but IMHO R* seriously need to review their gameplay structure. If you're going to have a plethora of maddingly frustrating missions that need to be repeated endlessly then time to consider a Doom/Quake style save as you go, or at least some more checkpoints.

Definitely, but sadly people have been saying that to R* for years and it's fallen on deaf ears it seems :(

The thing that bothers me about chases in GTA IV are the ones with indestructable sections(with no way to tell it is initially) Most chases, even bike ones are much easier once you work out that they are unstoppable till a certain point and don't have to take risks to get within striking distance.

Aye, I did actually finish it friday and traded it in for rock band yesturday :D

If you thought those bikes ones were bad, theres a couple near the end where you have to drive miles in a car to x place then to x place, then if you die it won't checkpoint or anything it will make you drive across the map again its just frustrating and boring.

As much as I enoyed some of the missions, im glad I got rid of it.

This annoyed me so much. There must be about 5 missions where it says "Chase X and take them out" so you unload clip after clip of your SMG but it doesnt do jack because really your following them to a bloody cut screen and THEN you can kill them.

Play along with it. Your thinking of it too much as a game with rules rather than as an interactive story! Its done to make it more exciting where would the fun be if you could take out the vehicle straight away without any kind of drawn out drama! :)

I've got to the 3rd island and stopped playing.

I'll probably pick up the PC version when it's out just to see the game in its full HD glory without the nerfed graphics/frame-rate and with a less clumsy targetting system.

Not really expecting any miracles on the gameplay front though.
