VAR for subjective decisions was always going to be a mess. You were not only going to end up with inconsistent decisions but there was always going to be decisions like today and the Fernandes pen vs Villa that were so clearly wrong but not get overturned leaving supporters bemused as to what's going on.

VAR's not going anywhere, we can just only hope that, like they did with cricket, this clear and obvious thing disappears and they just let the VAR make the incorrect decisiosn. Using technology and still giving the correct decision is just stupid.

Yep, it can't be used for subjective decisions, or if it is, the ref himself needs to go and look at a monitor, that gives a greater degree of accountability.

It's the inconsistency I don't understand, that challenge, Nketiah's, and Tarkowski's, all easy reds but VAR only gives one.

At least refer the ref to the monitor to decide for themselves.

Le Tissier trying to make out that Romeu didn't stick one on him. He knew the ball was gone, lifted his foot and raised his studs. Utterly scummy tackle and a red every day of the week.

They have to give 1 decision against you per season or else you'll have nothing to cry about stiggy.

and in that match

Nah the force is irrelevant. Its a red card.
Force is absolutely relevant. A studs up or high challenge isn't automatically a red card, it's only if it's considered dangerous and risked injuring the opposition player - how much force goes into a challenge will influence whether a challenge is just reckless or dangerous. In this case it was dangerous.

Right but in the case we are discussing hes gone to hurt him. At a snails pace or otherwise.

JWP hasnt gone to hurt Maguire its just unfortunate that hes caught him.
I'd argue that you couldn't hurt somebody with a challenge at snails pace, therefore it wouldn't be considered dangerous.

Id argue that he hasnt gone to challenge for the ball and instead essentially kicked him off the ball. Obviously it wasnt snails pace but he has zero intention of going for the ball and therefore hes walking.

If you arent going for the ball and its clear like in this case you arent why is force relevant?
