Defending is about more than just the defence. We've lost two first team midfielders from last years underperforming midfield and the board have replaced them and strengthened with....a single midfielder for 0 pounds. Can't do anything if the board are going to set you up to fail like that.

People get hung up on it because it literally cost you a goal today. How many more is he gonna lose like that. He cannot compete in the air against players like Toney, Haaland, Nunez etc
Its never worked in the PL though. It's a huge price tag to pay for a short CB, proper gamble

Because adding the shortest CB in the pl to an already defensively suspect back line when dealing with set peices is a recipe for disaster? You might get away with it if you had a keeper that commanded his box but you have ddg instead.

It would have meaning if it was sincere, but it's not.
It's a gamble (as any signing is), but ETH has clearly decided he's good enough regardless of his size. The entire team is garbage so it's unfair to single him out immediately after 2 games. If he turns out to be rubbish I will quite happily say so.

For context...Jesus is a small striker, he's the same height as Martinez.

The last centre back to win the balon dor was 5ft9. Cannavaro is up there as one of great centre backs of the modern game.
He didn't play in the PL though. Italy has always been a different game, it's more about positioning because of the slower tempo
And Messi whose Argentinian won the ballon d'Or 7 times, might aswell just buy any old player from Argentina eh

Mascherano did fine at barca at CB, probably smaller. More likely the team setup than his height.

Pretty much this. What is more worrying is that the only player we have managed to sign is an Ajax player. This transfer window has been absolutely shocking for a new manager coming in. 3 weeks left to get players in which will end up being Fellani desperation.
