Greenlizard0 PL & Championship Football Thread ** spoilers ** [12th - 15th August 2022]

Martinez needs cutting a bit of slack, pretty much no one would thrive in the **** storm he’s been thrown in to.

If you’re new coming into Pools defence etc you can at least rely on the other 3/4 players to be competent and know wtf they are doing while you settle in but at United even the experienced players are all over the shop.

Pretty much this. What is more worrying is that the only player we have managed to sign is an Ajax player. This transfer window has been absolutely shocking for a new manager coming in. 3 weeks left to get players in which will end up being Fellani desperation.
Mascherano played for Barca at their peak, where they had 99% of the ball and the opposition rarely got within 30 yards of their goal to put any sort of ball into the box. Barca didn't need a CB that was physically dominant or strong in the air, they needed one that was comfortable on the ball and had the pace and smarts to break up counter attacks - Mascherano ticked all those boxes.

Man Utd are a team that have to defend attacks frequently and are playing in a league that has a lot of very physical forwards. You may not have been able to predict the scoreline today but the way in which Brentford were going to target Utd was a certainty and for Utd to play a CB that cannot run along with one of the 7 dwarfs played into the hands of Brentford's forwards.

Can Martinez have a successful career at Utd? Maybe but this Utd team need to become far more dominant in possession, have to be far better at breaking up attacks before they reach your back line and he's going to need a CB partner that can defend more than 10 yards outside his 18 yard box without getting a nose bleed.

I hate the Glazer's but they have had major success with their NFL team so cannot be all on them. Far too many leeches wanting big money contracts at United. Non playing staff I mean.

It can be all on them. NFL is entirely different to soccer. If you underinvest and underachieve in NFL you get rewarded with higher draft picks. Glazers have always tried to do the bare minimum while taking out as much money as they can from us. It is very difficult to succeed when those are your owners.

It really does come down to them. If the people running the club are rubbish, the Glazers should replace them. As you would in any business. Woodward was left in place far too long.

They've spent a lot on transfers, but neglected everything else. The stadium, training ground, scouting network, etc.

I suspect they actually care about the NFL so take more of an interest in it. They don't care about Man Utd or football.

That said, the players also have to shoulder some of the blame, they simply don't make the effort.

Oh no he hasn't. He very carefully does not criticise, especially the England players.

Perhaps he doesn't single them out individually, but he said giving that squad to Ten Hag was not fair etc.

He should have been more critical of Ole and the Glazers sooner, but theres enough of the pundits putting the boot in (Keane etc).
