Greenlizard0 PL & Championship Football Thread ** spoilers ** [12th - 15th March 2021]

McSauce needs to breath between his words :D
He was terrible today. I'm fast approaching the point where I'm losing faith in this United side. Fred, McSauce, Lindehop, James are all not good enough at this level. Ok so West Ham like 15 of the other sides in the league come to Old trafford not to lose but United can't even do basic passing very well. Terrible few weeks watching this team.

Teams full of average players (and even worse in Maguire), has been for years. Coaching is even worse. None of these players are developing or becoming better.

Could make a case for Shaw as an example but he is simply benefitting from consistency. He was decent 5 years ago in his spell before the leg break.

The club is full of average coaching staff, the promotion from within to Director of Football gives me no hope based on the players and squad that exist.

Adam is talking about Liverpool doing well last season because they have an incredible manager (don't forget his coaching staff he took with him)... Yes so should United, as do every top club. Think Pep is a one man band? No, he's taken his staff from Barca > Bayern > Man City.

Saying it now, anyone who thinks United are on the right trajectory are deluded. This is as far as Ole will ever get.

/EndRant :o

fixed
none of those clubs are run so badly as our board are running man utd

Yet what do Utd vs most of the top half teams? Exact same as what West Ham did.

I think we haven't played a back 5 at all? If you look at those games in isolation you can see it from both sides not just United. Especially Arsenal and Chelsea. Both teams played a back 5 because they were scared to come out and play because we counter well.

That is the golden ticket. Teams know we counter so well and if Ole can find a way to break down that defence then they will have to make a choice in how to set up as at the moment it is too easy for them to setup for a 0-0 with the chance they might nick a winner.

If you take away the freak Sheffield United result which even the officials say was wrong we are unbeaten since November. In 33 games we have only lost once. Yes it is far too many draws but that can only be improved on.

I must be naive as I am surprised at the negativity. MU are second in the league, behind City who have a fantastic squad and possibly the best manager. Not much more OGS could achieve this season?
The mandate would have been to close the gap on the champions. So far, MU are doing that (I am refering to being closer in points to City. Being ahead of Liverpool following their collapse is just an unexpected bonus).

Our points total is OK but we are out of the CL and we are still not looking like a team that is improving. We still look like the same team we did when Fernandes joined us. We still look crap against anyone who sets up sensibly against us. We still get routinely outplayed by teams with 1/10th of our budget and only get results because we have players that win us matches with moments of brilliance. We're not happy because we think that we could be doing a lot better with a better manager and because we don't think that Ole is good enough and that all we will do with him at the helm is tread water.

I'm still waiting for Fernandes to get injured and then we will see just how awful we are without him.

It may not feel like there is an improvement after certain lame performances but I strongly feel, maintaining 2nd place after so many games, when one of your main forwards (Martial) has become allergic to scoring, is a pretty damn good result so far. Imagine if you had a proper striker instead?!

Certain performances... That's the thing people who say "Man Utd are doing well, look they're 2nd!" are not looking at it within the context of performances. They're poor for large portions, the team has no coaching or game plan. It's a bunch of players, sent on a pitch. I'm adamant there's no coaching because you can see the players have no ability to predict where anyone is. It's get the ball, look up, wait, pass. That decision time means any team has set themselves.

The great teams, Liverpool, city, Barca, Bayern in recent years have all had a sixth sense (it ain't btw it's coaching) about where each other will be and move in unison. It's called coaching 11 players rather than relying on individual brilliance.

And no proper strikers, United have every possible striker option available terms of attributes and all of them can be a '9':

Martial - fast, can dribble, can slot home a goal. Just wildly inconsistent and poor attitude. Lack of real coaching evident that he hasn't changed in 6 years.

Rashford - All the attributes and ability with no football brain, reminiscent to Sterling. Won't go anywhere without strong coaching and direction.

Cavani - poacher, can hold the ball up, a classic striker. Experienced. Still can do it despite being 35.

Greenwood - like the top two, all the ability but young, needs steering and coaching.

There's a wealth up there Guardiola or Klopp would have gotten in line or shipped off. I'd argue if these two managers were in charge the three (minus cavani) would know if they didn't perform they'd be shipped out and replaced, at United they're on the gravy train which is a problem.

Ole should have been the director of football, culturally he's the right man, but he ain't inspiring or leading anyone anyone to greatness.

Liverpool: Alisson, Alexander-Arnold, Phillips, Kabak, Robertson, Fabinho, Wijnaldum, Thiago, Mane, Salah, Jota.

Happy with that line up as means Fab is back in the middle, I think it will help bring the best out of Thiago too

Yep, glad we're going with the same team again but it'll be a big test of them tonight.

Leipzig gave us no respect and played like a lot of Premiership teams have played against us in the past, Wolves won't be so naïve.

Wouldn't be surprised to see a 1-0 win for either team or a 0-0 draw but we'll probably end up with most of the possession and very few shots.

I want a better manager. It doesn't matter if City are on another level, you play them twice a season. Their quality is a bit of an irrelevance to how we are progressing and playing and I don't think we are playing well and I don't think we are progressing.

There is a reason the best teams in the world have the best managers. If they weren't vital then the top ones wouldn't be so in demand or consistently do well wherever they go.

I think if we still have Ole as our manager in 2 years time we will be in a similar position to now where we are largely reliant on the other top teams in the league to be having awful seasons to make us look OK.

Liverpool, Spurs, Arsenal & Chelsea are all having really poor seasons which is making our own shortfalls far less obvious.

I don't see progress under Ole other than by signing better players. Thats not being a good manager.

i think its the other way round, “good managers” go to the teams where the best players are. Theres a reason they won’t manage a team with average players.

also why do you support man utd if your in sidcup?
