Greenlizard0 PL & Championship Football Thread ** spoilers ** [12th - 17th March 2022]

We’re the youngest team in the league, a work progress who a couple of years ago were at our lowest ebb. We’ll have over-achieved if we get 4th this season, you or City are competing to absolutely walk the league every season.

Im not sure if youre meant to be quoting me here.

I get that but that wasnt a good performance by Arsenal tonight. Youre at home and i cant really remember a point in which Liverpool were troubled until Thiago decided to let you have a big chance. I dont really remember any sustained pressure and there certainly wasnt at the end which is what i expected.

Every game going forward now is winnable with the way we’re playing. Both City and Liverpool games out of the way and we’re still a point ahead with 2 games in hand.

It could be a lot worse.

I think you'll comfortably finish top four personally. The other teams going for it are a train wreck / sanctioned.

I think that game highlighted the gulf in quality between the two sides. Arsenal played well and we looked like a side that's been playing twice a week for the past 3 months and yet Arsenal created their first chance of note in the 90th minute, once the game was over. It reminded me a bit of the CL final where Spurs fans felt they were in the game and yet we were just holding them at arms length, never looking in any danger.

I'm so pleased Matip is getting some praise lately. It's so easy to just give all the praise to VVD (and Alisson) but he's been outstanding this season - he's been outstanding most of the time he's played for us since signing to be fair, the only issue has been keeping him fit. He and VVD compliment each other so well with VVD's physical dominance and Matip's grace, gliding forwards like a 2m Messi.

He’s right about it not being in Liverpools hands though. They still need City to slip up.

And they will multiple times. Liverpool are relentless again, where as City look again like they can beat you 6-0 or struggle to score against Everton. Liverpool will beat City too and win the title. City had their much talked about run and they still couldn't shake off Liverpool.

Not getting a striker is going to cost them, even though I don't think 120m for Kane would have been wise, what they have isn't either. Liverpool fans will get to celebrate the title properly this time with 3 trophies on the bus while Everton look forward to the Championship and Manu have spent 1.5 billion on ****. Quite possibly the best season in Liverpool's history.

It's in our hands but I'm not getting carried away, City could win every game and it only takes us to draw and vice versa

It's certainly one or the best races for the title in awhile. I think we edge it in terms of striking options as last night showed, we could bring on Bobby and salah etc.

Re Matip I agree with Baz he doesn't get anywhere near enough praise for how good he is.

When did Arteta become a moaning old fart? Moaning about fixture congestion. Let’s just hope by some miracle you don’t get into Europe as he’ll have a breakdown.

All credit to Liverpool, they are one of the top sides in the world but what a disgusting attitude that runs through that team, you got players patting the ref on his back for decisions he makes, talk about condescending, you got Jota winding the fans up after he scored what was a poor attempt at goal which should have been saved, he has some chip[ on his shoulder about something, no idea what and you got the great lovable Klopp constantly ranting and raving on the touchline to the 4th official about nothing all game, maybe a great side but the arrogance and disrespect is something else.

LOL :D Jota was celebrating in front of the Liverpool fans btw.

And why no mention of Arteta ranting and raving? He's far worse for it than Klopp.

Honestly though is it really our game plan to have such loss of control in the game(my perception, obviously not Klopp's if that is the plan)? Yes we generally defend well if we retain our shape but it doesn't feel comfortable at all albeit if I compare to 19/20 nothing will ever look as comfortable or inevitable as Liverpool guaranteed to win.
Feels like we're on the cusp of a game where a team just manages to have that bit of quality with the opportunities presented and go up quickly against us in those 20-30 minute spells. Granted, that naturally happens and you can't win everything but definitely feels like we're on the edge at times.

If it is our game plan I certainly don't think it'll work deeper in the CL against really good teams.
