Greenlizard0 PL & Championship Football Thread ** spoilers ** [13th - 19th January 2023]

2 average teams in an average match
I make you favourites now. You’re playing well, looking very hard to beat, can’t see you losing more than another 2 games this season and you’ve got the refs on your side. It’s gonna be Utd no doubt.

Lmao Rob, control yourself.

But he's interfering because he has to be defended. He impacts the defenders and the goalies actions. Had he stood still and took himself out of the play id get it but he didn't.

So what about a player who is offside but his teammate gets the ball and then passes to him for a tap in. An offside player quite often has to be considered. If you want to go down that route then almost any goal where there is a player in an offside position should mean the goal is disallowed.

Would I be annoyed if that was a goal against us? Yep. Im I happy to take it? Of course.

Ultimately you play to the whistle and if Rashford is offside then you play the other players who weren't.

He doesn't obstruct the opponent though, as the opponent wouldn't have made it to the ball as it was travelling too fast. Rashford didn't physically obstruct city players to the ball. So that fails on that count for interfering.

He doesn't touch the ball, so that isn't interfering.
They are examples of interfering. He can also give offside if he impacts the defender and what they do. Hence why you see some being offside for being near the keeper for eg.

There's is no doubt Rashford does that.

First goal should never have stood and you know it. How can you not be interfering if you feint the shot straight in front of the keeper?
I don't make the rules. Should it be changed? Maybe. But we've suffered multiple time from poor rules this season with "handballs" so it is nice for it to go the other way for a change. Suggesting our matches are being fixed is laughable.

Unreal that the 1st goal isn't classed as offside now, just abolish the rule altogether as no-one now knows what is offside and not, football has officially died for me now as you have absolutely no idea what offside, Rashford was also offside for the 1st attempt at a cross from Ganacho but as it came back off a defender much like Salah's goal that I also feel should've been ruled out because he gained an advantage due to being offside it's classed as a different phase in play.

I don't argue that he "had possession" of the ball, but that's now how the rule is currently interpreted. In the spirit of things, he was interfering but the law currently isn't interpreted that way.

Same abysmal midfield for Liverpool today playing what appears to be the same formation and with Ox out wide where's been a passenger every game.

This isn't going to be fun to watch but a draw would be a massive result given how bad we are.

I remember when we scored at OT. A perfectly good goal disallowed because the Utd players crowded the ref and cajoled him into giving a ridiculous foul against Odegaard.

I remember we were denied two penalties against Newcastle what's your point? Refs are **** and have been all season.

What? Salahs wasn't even in the same ballpark. If that had come off a defender straight to Rashford in an offside position then it would have been similar. What you are suggesting is that if a player is offside at any point when the ball is kicked and then further on in play that player kicks the ball it should be offside regardless of where they are when they actually kick it.

I would agree 100% that if he crossed it and Rashford was offside when the ball was kicked and the deflection took it to Rashford who scored it should be offside. That makes sense. The ball went straight back to Garnacho though and the player who blocked it wasn't involved with Rashford at all at that point.
