Greenlizard0 PL & Championship Football Thread ** spoilers ** [22nd - 24th October 2021]

It's more complicated than just a holding mid. When you look at Rashford, Sancho and Greenwood, they wouldn't look out of place playing for us wide in a 4-3-3 but then they've got Fernandes that wants/needs to play in a 4-2-3-1. You can't really fit Pogba into a 4-2-3-1 and then there's the Ronaldo issue. You only have to listen to Neville talking about needing to play Cavani alongside Ronaldo - where the hell are Utd playing Fernandes/Pogba and all those wide forwards with a front 2?

The squad is unbalanced.

Ok, to an extent I agree. But taking things back to Ole, the lack of balance in the squad is at least partially his doing. He's had no plan, so has effectively bought good players at random as they become available.

And I would still argue strongly that a good manager would do much, much better even with this squad

Oh I agree, Ole is responsible for the state of the squad and should be doing better than what they are. I was just responding to the point about all Utd are missing is a holding mid.

Their squad is confused and it's summed up with the Ronaldo signing. They let Lukaku go because he wasn't going to work hard enough etc etc and then they sign an old Ronaldo that's just going to stand in the penalty area. They've got a lot of players that are suited to playing a 4-3-3 but their best player (Fernandes) and their new star (Ronaldo) can't really play that formation and they're just stuck trying to shoehorn players into the side.

You can talk about an unbalanced squad when you have anyone on the pitch who is fairly certain where their teammates will be when they received the ball.

You can talk about an unbalanced squad when you don't have players bumping into each other during the game and 5 players surrounding an opposition player only to not tackle him and let me slip a through ball to a guy in metres of space.

I'm pretty sure that was a joke parodying the people who are constantly making the excuse for utter dross with "we need player X and we will challenge". Like a single player will take a team from trash to the spectacular.

Yep

what’s gone wrong?

No hard feelings towards him but I want him to go before there’s any lasting damage to his reputation.

shame it’s not working out but is what it is

What's gone wrong? Well, he was OK as an interim manager but he should never have been given the job.

He's just not very good at anything other than talking about how great Man Utd are.

What’s gone wrong?

What do you mean? Hes not good enough. Never has been and by all accounts never will be. Hes a nice guy and did some parts of his job well but hes just a massively limited manager and at the top level you will get found out.

Hes been propped up for 2.5 years by having quality players who dug him out of holes time after time and he was propped up last season by our rivals awful seasons.

He was kept in a job by our fans desperate hope that he would come good and "the United way" would live on in him despite everything suggesting he wasn't good enough.

People projected their own visions of what a "top red" should be onto him and managed to convince themselves that time would magically endow him with the managerial talent of Klopp, Guardiola etc. I think people wanted to be able to say "I believed in him and saw his potential when others didn't".

Its like when a friend is in a bad relationship that everyone on the outside can see is doomed but your friend is so invested in it and so desperately wants it not to fail that they completely overlook every piece of evidence that they should break it off.

Yeah he’s not good enough as it stands, I mean things have gone from bad to worse. I guess better it’s been highlighted in such a dramatic fashion.

What’s the reality though, I reckon he could still be here at the end of the season. Unless he loses the next 3 or more games on the trot.

Question for the opposition fans here. How many of you thought that Ole was actually a good manager at any point once he got his permanent contract? If I wanted to damage Liverpool or City the most I would probably get rid of their manager. If I wanted to damage United I would get rid of players.

Ole has been cack at every club he managed, molde and Cardiff ain't even big clubs in comparison utd there small fry.

He got to stay at utd cause of the player he was.

Rivals were celebrating when he got a perm contract.

OLE has had 2.5 years to instill an identity on this team. That exact period of time later and it looks like none of them knew exactly what they were doing, all pressing different positions at different tempos, press or hold. Different players doing different things.

He even said in his interview he wanted to play high press after the game, yet some did it and others didn't. You have to wonder do they even listen or respect him. Certain managers hold a dressing room purely on their presence and Old does not have that. That group of players need that because of the personalities that exist in that Dressing room, some of them think they are bigger and better than the club. Some of them just look like they could not give a ****!

Shocking display today but it wasn’t unexpected. As much as I admired Solskjaer as a player I’ve never seen him as the answer as a manager. The clock is ticking and a matter of time before the players turn against him.

Sell Pogba to Newcastle in January. Throw in Phil Jones as a sweetener.

As for manager? Get Roy Keane in there on a month long contract to sort the attitude out.

I don't think there will be much of Pogba left to sell to Newcastle if Keane's his manager for a month.
