Greenlizard0 PL & Championship Football Thread ** spoilers ** [25th - 27th April 2023]

What am I reading here? Of course Arsenal have bottled it, they were miles ahead at one point and have completely ran out of steam, they won’t have a better chance at winning it for years is the reality.

Liverpool have gotten more big 6 decisions than any other big 6 club but that penalty appeal was not one of them.

Not quite, especially as the VAR table that folks usually base their opinion on doesn't include ridiculous decisions that stood that VAR didn't override - such as the penalty given in the arsenal game, or the offside goal that VAR missed due to not having a camera in the same game etc. If you want to go by subjective decisions then Newcastle have had more in their favor for example :p

Fully expecting a loss tonight, we don’t play well at everton and we don’t win when on Bt sport(bodes well for Europe next season    )and we’re playing in the cursed “Saudi” shirt

I see ur going to be a bundle of Joy at work this morning :p

Hah

I couldn’t give two hoots what happens now.

Would be fantastic to finish the season strong buts it’s been a complete joy to watch that team this season.

Haven’t had this much fun since the mid 90’s

Would love to see Howe pick up 13 points not sure if it’s 10 now and that means no English manager has more points in a season than Howe.

Missed MOTD last night, thank god!

I don’t know why they didn’t hold it until tonight though. Then they could have done all the midweek fixtures in one show rather than drag 3 good games over to short snippets on Saturdays show.

I just cannot fathom how Arsenal had 50 points at the mid way point. (To put it into context only 4 teams have had more at the halfway stage) Yet I think they will be lucky to even get to 90 points with current form.

The way they have played last 4 games I'm not sure where the next win will come from. Luckily top 4 is all but confirmed.

Saka had been dreadful lately and why he takes penalties before the likes of Jesus and Odegaard I will never know. Even the ones he scores are so soft they could easily be saved and what's happened with smith Rowe? How is he not getting a run out right now, had his form dropped that much?

Probably no coincidence results went down hill with Saliba being injured, let's just hope he stays and they strengthen a bit for next season

They were pressing well, had a lot of luck, no injuries per say. They are now finding out that you need to be ultra fit to keep up the early season fitness levels and they are making mistakes at the back which they weren't before. To beat this Man City squad you need to be perfect pretty much the whole season.

The most they can get now is 90..

Saliba is the key, the stats with and without him show how important he is / how much of a drop off in quality Holding is. We've played nearly the same team all season, they are running out of steam. You only have to look at City's bench last night to see the reason they aren't. Smith-Rowe is an odd one, one of our best players last year and top scorer i think but he's been severely hampered by injuries so can only assume Arteta doesn't want to risk him.

Really what is the risk? Nearly end of season and the game last night was crucial, nothing left if we lost it, if you can't risk him for that he might as well not even be in the squad

I don't know, i'd have played him instead of Vieira in all the previous games personally, it's all i can think.

Amazing how much there's still to decide. Usually at this point of the season it's pretty much done and dusted at the top (or near enough).

Really think there's a chance 5th could come down to the Villa Brighton game at the end of the season. Can't see us getting more then a point from United on Sunday, Wolves will be tough as it's always a tough fixture for us but think we'll grab all 3, we'll eat Tottenham and depending on Liverpool form on the day we might get a point. Brighton have an equally weird mismatch of games that I think they'll get points from. Gonna be so tight. That awful Spurs game could haunt Brighton for an age...

The fact we're even in the conversation for 5th is just insane and something I still can't quite get my head around...

Ake was injured and Akanji went left back for the first time this season or at least he hasn't played there much. City's back four was just as much patchwork. Regardless of the quality they have. The reason why ourselves and Madrid have had so much success with City is that we play on the counter with pace. Arteta is not going to defeat Pep playing toe to toe. They are just too good at what they do. That is not saying Arsenal cannot get to the levels of City but City have been doing this for 6 years now.

We have Rob Holding... The situations are not similar at all. City have rotated their squad all season.
