Greenlizard0 PL & Championship Football Thread ** spoilers ** [29th - 31st Jan 2021]

It's the very definition of hand ball, he's moved his hand towards the ball to block it. For the ref to miss that is unforgivable, but someone to review the video evidence and not give it is mind blowing.

I think that's the worst VAR decision all season. How can you dive to save a shot and not get anything given against you?
Pickford/VVD was still worse. Officials can make mistakes or interpret things differently but when they forget the rules and or forget to check a challenge it's inexcusible.

It won't happen but they need to put VAR in the bin or at least take it back to womens/u18/lower league football and refine it before introducing it again. Without VAR we're still criticising officials for making mistakes but we generally accept that they're human and **** happens. With VAR there shouldn't be any excuse. The only reason for slowing the game down and killing the experience for supporters is that we'll get far more accurate and consistent decisions but we're not. We've slowed the game down, killed the experience for supporters and still getting ridiculous and inconsistent decisions, all with the added extra of bull**** excuses from the PGMOL every week.

I thought VVD was ignored because of the offside or whatever meaning it never happened?
That was one of the early excuses being briefed to journos (during the game) but no, that wasn't the case. As we saw with the Richarlison red card later in the game, a red card for serious foul play (or violent conduct) can still be given after the game's been stopped for offside or a foul. Michael Oliver done an interview fairly recently and he confirmed that they simply forgot to check the challenge after checking the offside and that it should have been an offside + red card for Pickford. He graciously included himself in the blame but it was 100% the VAR officials job

This change to the handball law is so ****ing stupid! Not one person would argue that a goal scored from the top of a players arm should stand and yet we've changed handball to allow it and are now giving players offside because the top of their arm is off!

So today the PGMOL are saying that the Southampton penalty couldn't be given because of the deflection onto the arm. A couple of months ago when they tweaked the handball law, they told journalists that pens like the one we got vs Leeds (a deflection onto the arm in an unnatural position) would still be given. Kelly Cates hit the nail on the head when she said had the penalty been given the PGMOL would be telling everybody that his arm was in an unnatural position. There's zero accountability for officials and VAR right now - the PGMOL are just looking for reasons why every decision was correct.

"By far the better team"

You really werent and should have played with 10 for the majority. A draw was about right.

Both had good chances. Willian should have scored and Pepe had one luckily cleared by Maguire. Equally Cavani missed an absolute sitter.
