Greenlizard0 PL & Championship Football Thread ** spoilers ** [2nd - 5th Feb 2021]

Unsurprisingly a decision that VAR looked at and decided was still a penalty has taken a backseat to a 9-0 win and 2 games where 2 players were sent off...

You say that but when Salah is fouled he has an article written about him how hes disgraced someones memory. Martial still cheated regardless of the score.

Can't say I have noticed that. Flavour of the day topics come and go. It was players diving for a while and Salah was one of the players getting a lot of soft penalties at the time. That was quite a while ago now though. They aren't going to write about every time a player goes down too easily especially when it has no effect on the results.

The most noteworthy or relevant topics get the back pages. 9-0 with 2 red cards and Arsenal getting 2 players sent off inc. their keeper is bigger news than Martial going down very easily.

Referees need to be able to have the balls to say "no, thats not a penalty because you stuck your leg out to force contact or you were going down before the contact came". Some players are experts at forcing contact and get away with it because obviously there was clear contact when they left a leg hanging behind them. Harry Kane is the expert at this. Until refs start doing that, players will get away with going down under a stiff breeze and will usually be rewarded for it. I've seen Mane stay on his feet a number of times and have his run completely ruined as a result and you don't get the decision. We can complain all we want but refs have told players that if you go down in the box and there has been contact, its 9/10 a penalty.

Tony Cascarino accused Salah of insulting Nobby Stiles.

I've said before i have no issue with players going down easily as they have to. Unless you go to the ground you arent getting a pen just stop falling before the contact...

Lol the envy is strong in this one. Our goals scored are nearly double of that of Arsenal and the season isn't even finished.
lol your comparing arsenal to united? pipe down.

everyone including every arsenal fan knows where bang on average.

Doesnt mean a supportorter who supports a team lesser down united cant comment on your beloved team.

Look at pepe's goal last night, he could have easily dived for a pen but stayed on his toes and ran passed 2 defenders stumbling a bit and scored

The thing is had Pepe done a Pepe and missed...he doesnt get a pen. Its similar to Mane the other week, took a shot, missed and was taken out. Thats a foul but for some reason they are never given.

Im having a pop at Martial but tbh i dont really blame him tbf

Yeah, 99/100 Pepe ain't sticking that in the goal like he did. 8/10 you score the resultant penalty and the defender probably gets a yellow to boot.

You also have to hand it to Ole. He took a defender off at half time and put attackers on. Any normal person would have been more than happy with 4-0 but he put Southampton to the sword.

We were 4-0 up against a team with 10 men. It wasn't the most ballsy decision ever but it was certainly positive. I think using all your subs by the 60th minute was stupid though. AWB looked like he might have picked up an injury and had to stay on when perhaps he should have come off.
