Greenlizard0 Premier League Football Thread ** spoilers ** [31st Aug - 1st September 2024]

Yeah I can't disagree with that.

But why should we accept that after £700m spend? We should expect more from the management especially the new management team - which in fairness is going to take some time to deliver. Real progress takes time, 3-5 years.
Money spent doesn't necessarily mean league success. No club has a god given right to win the league. I think half the problem with modern fans is the big money spent on players, the fanbase hype up average players as the next coming of Zidane or Messi and then act all shocked when they aren't winning over a league campaign.

Tbh the current issues you have aren't new, we've been pointing them out for over a decade now

Honestly what do you actually expect though?

The Liverpool team that was fielded yesterday was 100% full strength that was fighting on four fronts well into the season. Have played plenty of games together week in week out.

Yesterday we had De Ligt and Mazraoui starting for the first time together at Man United and De Ligt couldn't even make a full game as he isn't 100% fit yet. Zirkzee is a still young and has played a handful of games. It was pretty obvious the game was a bit big for him yesterday but I found he came into it as it went on.

What happened yesterday was on the face of it 100% predictable. Yet everyone seems totally shocked by it.

After the international break and it doesn't get going then we can talk but getting angry now just seems silly.

It has very little to do with Liverpool really, we could be flying and still lose that game. They are a better side.

I think as we’ve gone and signed another set of ex-ETH players, and Ugarte who fills a big gap, we need to give him the next 6-8 games with them.

If we don’t win the majority, while playing well, then he’ll have to go. He’s had more than enough time.

But once you got competent owners in - and a good manager - that turned around.
we had a couple of good managers during that time, the change was a world class manager yeah. A good manager wouldn't have had the same impact working in a structure that has prioritised being self sustaining in a period where other clubs spending has gone through the roof. Your issue is there aren't any world class managers available, the good ones probably arent a 'big' enough name either

No but we should expect a strong mentality and some sort of cohesive play! Although looking at Chelsea, perhaps not! I don't think anyone is expecting us to win the league. The basics would be a good start.

What constitutes current issues? We have had one of the most constructive transfer windows since Fergie left. Got rid of a lot of deadwood and brought in players that we actually need. We also didn't pay stupid money for them either. We also brought in 100 million from sales which hasn't happened in ten plus years.

The problem is Rome wasn't built in a day and people hyping up what looks like a decent windows needs to realise that it isn't going to happen overnight.

Three games in that could have quite easily been 6 points but we are where we are. Newcastle have 7 points and they have been absolutely terrible and rode their luck in all their games. From what I have seen from United has looked promising but still needs the full squad to come back. Yesterday was just a wake up call to the level we need to get to.

Not just good, surely you mean one of the best, if not the best manager in recent history? Not to mention one of the best players in the world in Salah.

Well yes, clearly, but it’s obvious to everyone that ETH isn’t 10% as good as Klopp. Find someone better.

They tried that end of last season didn't they?

Perhaps Ruud is the guy they are going to try?

I did say this before also, there's a lot of faith being put into Ineos, there's no guarantee they'll be any good.

Sticking with a manager that clearly doesn't have the ability to implement any sort of game plan. Buying players purely to suit the current manager.
Three games in that could have quite easily been 6 points but we are where we are.
3 games where you were exceptionally lucky to have picked up 3 points, it could quite easily have been 1

We also hit the bar and had a goal disallowed that was going in regardless but because of rules.
Rules are rules, we had a goal disallowed yesterday for offside in similar circumstances.

To be honest you should check out Slot's bit with Keane yesterday when talking about tactics for the game, although it will be a bit of a shock to you guys hearing a competent manager talk about football and how he nullified your entire game plan.

He didn't really nullify it though. It was two massive mistakes from Casemiro that led to both goals. Then we just collapsed. Up until 30 minutes we were giving Liverpool a good game but we couldn't keep it up as we are not at that level yet.

What we really saw was a team that is solid and together from the past season compared to a team that isn't ready yet or even playing in the right positions.

we'd already had a goal disallowed and we're literally curb stomping your midfield at will. Wonder if Gravenberch checked his pockets for the next Zidane, Iniesta and Busquets rolled into one..

4 of your back 5 are players that he had at Ajax, surely they should know what your manager wants to do having spent plenty of time with him previously

De Ligt and Martinez have played a handful of games together. In fact Liverpool was their first start together. How many times have Konate and VVD played together?

It is not an opinion that Liverpool are a team that are well drilled and comfortable in their positions and Man United are still finding their feet and essentially doing their pre season now.
