City have spent a lot of money but Mourinho and Conte have had the chance to spend similar amounts of money. Pep has bought much better and clearly built a better and more future proof squad. He's making Mourinho look done.

City have spent money for sure, but they could have put together their team far far cheaper. they've wasted an unbelievable amount of money on the wrong players over the years.

Fullbacks were obviously not good enough for the past 5 years but they never improved it, they needed CB's and kept buying the most overpriced, over rated CBs who didn't help. Likewise they kept playing Yaya even though he hurt them for probably 80% of the time he was on the pitch. 2 goals against likely a weaker team late on when you're utterly useless in 5 other games where being lazy defensively and barely involved offensively isn't a good balance.

The biggest changes I see in City, and Utd for that matter, is stop wasting positions on players who barely do anything for the majority of the game.

Really negative performance from Man United, it was a game lacking in quality from both teams but at least Liverpool tried to win the game.
Did anybody expect anything else? Even with Liverpool in a mini crisis and Utd starting the season on fire, there was never a doubt in my mind that Utd would set up like they did today. It's what Mourinho does when he comes up against a side that isn't 100 times inferior to his.

Who knows whether this will prove true but somebody made a point on twitter about this tactic of Mourinho's and why it's previously worked but might not now. Whenever he's won the title in the past he's never had more than 1 or 2 rivals or sides of similar quality to his own - he's been able to take those 2-4 games against those sides and try not to lose, maybe pinch a win and then win the league in the other 34 games. There's 6 relatively strong sides in the PL - with 10 genuinely tricky games to play, can he afford to keep playing for a draw? If Utd keep setting up like this then City will pick up far more points in those 10 big games, leaving Utd a big ask in the other 28.
