Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [15 - 17th December 2012]

It all started with Modric's transfer and cm's market value (which I can't believe I forgot to mention earlier). For nearly a year cm banged on about market value (you'll have to ask him what it means) and another poster on here (that follows Liverpool) led the attempted reasoning with cm, which later turned to mocking of cm. Since then cm's been obsessed with Liverpool.

I meant outside these boards.

Every spurs fan I know hates Liverpool and vica versa. I think it stems from Spurs trying to become the 4th best club in the UK (and not having a sugar daddy) whilst Liverpool have slipped and this causing a lot of friction.

I have a completely irrational hatred of Liverpool and I enjoy baiting the **** out of them. In particular, I rarely see reds hold their hands up and say they were well beaten, there always seems to be something which was unfair. It drives me nuts. I care about Spurs beating Liverpool more than Spurs beating Arsenal.

With Arsenal fans there is the banter but there seems to be a realism and analysis which is completely non existent in Liverpool fans.

Allen was rock solid for us, and still is a good player.

I just don't think he fits in the Liverpool team, or at least needs a few years in the role before people start slating him.

I think the problem boils down to spending money where it wasn't needed, and as such he's getting the stick. Same as a team spending £15,000,000 on a defender. If he's pap, then it's a bad buy, but if he's pap and you also need a striker then it compounds the badness.

He's not done too much wrong since joining us. 5 minutes into his first game and Lucas gets injured, resulting in him spending the next 3 months having to play slightly out of position. Despite that, he's been very good for the most part, often doing all the leg work for the likes of Gerrard. That extra work's shown over the last 3-4 weeks, he's looked tired and in need of a rest.

I think our midfield's biggest problem is the team as a whole not being ready to play the system we're being asked just yet. We're not yet good enough at keeping the ball high up the pitch and when 2 of your 3 midfielders and both your fullbacks are pushed forward, if you don't keep the ball then you're going to get caught on the break. That's been a problem for us all season and we were well and truly punished for that yesterday. As Rodgers puts it, we need to turn our midfield triangle around, and have 2 sitting with 1 pushing forward until we can keep the ball better.

another way of saying i don't want to take the bet because i think i'm going to lose but i don't want to say this because i would be realistic about Liverpool FC for a change. I also do not want to come to terms with Swansea FC realistically finishing above us now.
That was honestly the sort of childish, moronic post I was expecting from CM. I'll happily take the bet with you if you'd like.

...Every spurs fan I know hates Liverpool and vica versa....

Really? I know lots of Spurs supporters that don't have an issue with Liverpool let alone the obsession you and cm have. And I certainly haven't noticed any unusual hate from Liverpool fans towards Spurs. cm gets **** because he's cm but that's about it.

Maybe it's a bit like our rivalry with Chelsea. They seem to hate us far more than we do them. Big clubs often are targetted more than small clubs like Spurs and Chelsea though.

good try

you sound a bit like a Newcastle fan.

It doesn't matter whether you agree with it or not, if they have made it clear that they feel that way then it's about having a bit of respect for people's opinions.

It's only Man.U. fans who object to the term scum and that's respected by the majority now, it would be cool if the same grace was applied to all.

The always a victim thing is perfectly acceptable in my eyes, it is not made with any reference to Hillborough, it is a reference to the rhetoric Liverpool supporters continually employ.

I disagree, it is blatantly said not to offend those of Hillsborough or Heysel but rather to get a rise out of it due to a reference to it which you can get away with. It is just distasteful to use when people find it offensive.

**** sure escalated quickly in here, but while you can get away with blatant trolling/baiting and the fact calling it out gets you in more trouble than doing it just leads to this mess. The place isn't civil with the baiting, it isn't banter, its just dumb snide comments half the time.

i forgot united and liverpool fans got on like a house on fire.

I'd say most Liverpool fans here have more respect for every other United fan compared to yourself, says a lot when you have guys like Tom posting.
jk no ban please

Didn't think he was a player we should've prioritised in the summer either but he did start his Liverpool career well. Regardless of his recent form I'm still wondering what he really brings to the team that Lucas couldn't do in his sleep. He doesn't start attacks like Alonso used to and he doesn't get assists or score many goals. There's obviously something I'm missing for him to be voted Welsh player of the year though, not that he has any competition now Giggs has retired.

Oh and...

I was hoping Pigeon was going to instead. It would have been a no lose situation.
Die bitch!

There's a fine line between banter and trolling. It wasn't that long ago that people were complaining at the dons for being too strict - I remember Rotty getting grief for deleting a joke/friendly insult between Dan & G|mp. An exchange between 2 people can be nothing more than banter, the exact same things being said between 2 others can be far less friendly. It's not always easy for the dons to know which is which.

It is used with NO reference to Hillsborough/Heysel. It is PURELY used as an excellent description of the standard Liverpool defence.

I (and I expect most people) have no interest is taking the **** out of a horrific football incident and I do not want to reference it or use it in any way in banter.

This is purely a response to the (perceived) continued grumblings of Liverpool players/fans/managers about how decisions never go their way/injuries/luck etc.

Edit- I suppose I could just type "WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH" but it doesn't have the same rhythm :(

Agree on don't see what he brings over Lucas, Lucas keeps it ticking over quickly and neither seem to start many attacks

Well use another expression to put across how you feel about our woe is me attitude you seem to think we have, I mean please tell me in the past 30 games we haven't had at least 10-15 stone wall penalty shouts, I mean have you watched all our games to call us this victim rubbish?

Not sure why people think aye I don't really mean to reference it, I know the whole thing started out as a dig at Hillsborough/Heysel but I have my own meaning.

Okay, well when they 'see everything' and the continual baiting and trolling each week from the same people and others rising to it it isn't hard to distinguish which is a joke and which is being a **** at that stage.
