Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [15 - 17th December 2012]

Yet we all accepted we deserved to be beaten, so what exactly are you bleating on about?

Yes that was a questionable penalty on Agger, but that would still be 3-2 so I'm not sure exactly what you are getting at.

your manager thought it quite important

I didn't say Allen was like Xavi, although there are similarities in how they play. I made a comment about how Xavi's role is half way between what Busquets does and what Iniesta does. Allen's role is or should be half way between what Lucas does and what our 3rd/most offensive midfielder does.

As for Lucas's injury and Allen subsequent role. Absolutely not. With Lucas injured Allen had to move back into the most defensive position. He was our best possible (and only) replacement in that role and we had other players that could fill in his role.

In the barca midfield allen would be the replacement for Xavi though (Lucas/biscuits and who he **** knows/Iniesta)? Gerrard doesn't seem to want to move from the center circle these days I would have used him, or Henderson at a push as a Lucas replacement.

In terms of the roles they play for the 2 sides, yes. I certainly wouldn't have played Gerrard in Lucas's role though - it's been Gerrard's lack of mobility that made Allen's job harder than it should have been. I'm not convinced of Henderson as the most defensive player either - he can just about do Allen's role but not as effectively.

Vintage cm. What's funny? Have you managed to interpret Newbie's post as him saying Allen's better than or would replace Xavi in the Barca side?:o

You really can't understand simple things can you?

Rogers is an idiot; I just watched his post match interview for the first time.

Ref's are not robots, his BBC interview was going so bloody well and then he starts bleating on about "what do we have to do to get a penalty?"

That is just gonna irritate ref's, especially on a marginal decision (I haven't seen it, I am just going on what I have heard). Refs wont be thinking "poor Liverpool" I really must get them a pen next time; they will be thinking the exact opposite.

Yes this does mean that penalties that should be being given are not being given and refs shouldn't do this, but Rogers is an idiot for not managing the psychology much better.

He was doing so well and the BBC reporter tee-ed up the question and Rogers fell for it.

When did you become a psychologist for referees? Rodgers only commented on the penalty incident after he was asked and maybe he said he doesn't know what we have to do to get a pen because that's what he honestly thinks after seeing several stone wall penalties not be awarded for us this season already.

Every manager comments on penalty decisions going against them and I haven't seen it negatively effect any other club. And I'm not saying Rodgers comments have effected us either, nor do I believe there's a conspiracy. We've just been incredibly unlucky so far this season with penalty decisions.

Because no managers ever complain about not getting penalties.

Yah, of course they do. However by making a campaign of this he has acted like an idiot. Don't take the bait; say the ref is right and I bet next match he gets a pen.

Creating a them vs us with refs is just stupid, it is as simple as that.

Rodgers has started a campaign? :o

I bet if he walked to the training ground too it would help

sure i can.
No you can't.
i just can't understand the barca connection.

Keep trying. Figure it out and surprise us all.

He keeps making the same point over and over and over again in perfect harmony with his predecessor. I call that a campaign. What do you call it?

Also- droll.

If you're asked a question by an interviewer you answer it. If it was a campaign he'd have brought it up on his own accord - he didn't though. He also refused to claim a pen for a possible handball when prompted by the interviewer. Seems a strange thing to do when he's campaigning against officials for not giving us a pen.

not true.

He could have answered in numerous ways; no comment, I didn't see it, the ref was right etc etc.

Repetition of the same response indicates campaign to me (especially without evaluation of the closeness of the call)

Or he could answer honestly. He thought it was a pen and due to several penalty decisions, both marginal and stone wall, going against us over the course of the season, he doesn't know what we have to do to get one.

As I said in my edit, if it was a campaign he'd have taken the bait from the interviewer and claimed a penalty or at least highlighted the inconsistency between the handball given against us vs West Ham and the one not given for us yesterday. He didn't though.
