To be fair, it's because no one ahead of him is doing anything useful at all. Coutinho doing his usual thing of against a team not giving him acres of space and time.... being rubbish.

It's not like Gerrard is helping but he's just doing what Dier did for Spurs yesterday, when it's not working sometimes someone else has to run up and do something. Not saying he was good but sometimes in a game like this where nothing is clicking, you need someone to try something different.

Southampton playing impressively well for a team with several new players. Good football, some direct passing up the field, fast breaking with the odd very cute pass to take out the defence as for the goal. That pass was fantastic and the finish excellent as well.

Southampton attacking with the pace and energy that Liverpool showed so often last year.
 
Really interested to see how Long does, he has such smart movement and good finishing but he's always been with teams who just aren't that great. Depends obviously how Southampton do this year but if they can play better football and create more chances than is it Hull, Reading and West Brom, but with a better team I think he could really step up his game and have a great season.
 
Not watching but it sounds like Southampton have retained much of the playing style we had last year, hopefully we'll continue to gel and also find that cutting edge we so often lacked last year in all the high possession, no goals games we had.

To be fair, we're lucky not to be 3/4-1 down. You've completely dominated this half and looked far more likely to score.
