Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [16th - 22nd August 2011]

You haven't got 100 million for transfers, just the same as when Ronaldo was sold, United fans on here kept doing the simple math. £80m for ronaldo and our usual £30-40 million OMG we have £110m to spend. The money dissapeared.

I was under the impression you had a debt to pay off.

You have a budget for the season which will include wages, you cannot simply add up all the money thats come in and not think about wages and debt to come up with what you can spend.

To think you have 100m for transfers is ludicrous.

I am not saying we are going to spend £100m. Wenger himself said we had £40m to spend without Fab/Nasri going. So if they wanted to, they could spend it. It is available.

If you start off with £40m million. This money has been put aside purely for transfers. The debits would already be accounted for. That is why we have £40m available. If we then sell players for £30m and £24m. Then that is effectively available for transfer money if needed. Because if we didn't sell those players we would have those players plus the £40m set aside to begin with.

So yes, although it is unlikely that we would spend that amount it does not mean that we don't have the money available should we need it. Sounds quite straight forward to me

In reality might spend £15m. Might lol

Wenger really does have a tough week coming up. Could spell disaster unless Arsenal bring in some experience and better quality.

....*Awaits BaZ to rip my post to pieces* :p
You thought we played that well? :p

I agree pretty much with you assessment of todays game (although I thought Adam had a better game than you'll give him credit for) but I don't agree with the Aquilani stuff or your pessimism regarding what's to come.

On Aquilani - he doesn't want to be here and while the transfer window is still open, Dalglish won't play him. You only have to think back to what Dalglish had to say about Torres when he left to know that.

As for our performance and future prospects - for all Arsenal's problems, it was never going to be an easy game that we'd dominate from start to finish (and the 11 they put out wasn't that weak). We did lack flair today and the Adam/Downing/Carroll attacking dimension hasn't clicked just yet and we need to find a way of intergrating that with the passing game we played towards the end of last season but I'm not overly worried.

At the best of times it was going to take a few weeks for everybody to settle in but we've also had a messed up pre-season that's made things harder. Ideally both Suarez and Meireles would have started ahead of Henderson and Kuyt but it was clear from last week that Suarez wasn't fit and the sub appearance last week was the only football Meireles has played since the 45mins he had right at the start of pre-season.

Give it a couple of weeks and I'm sure we'll look a far better side. It's good that we're complaining about a performance after beating Arsenal 2-0 away from home though.

"Unlucky?"

Wigan are the luckiest club in the League, they've managed to survive all these seasons despite being utter tripe.

That's not really true though is it. They've had some fantastic players in their time in the Premiership, a couple of very good managers and they try to play good football but they're a selling club and will always struggle. Think they've done very well to stay in the Premiership. Just a shame they're not very well supported.

Ross Barkley our best player today... a 17 year old kid... every other player should be ****ing ashamed!

I like the look of Barkley but I thought he's been pretty rubbish today. Everytime he's got the ball, he's gone for goal and hasn't come close to scoring once.

He's not got anything else to do. It's what we need, some one to attack the defenders.

****ing disgusting performance! Boo's ring round Goodison Park and rightly so what a ****ing joke that was. How can you play 4-4-1-1 against QPR, how can you play 4-6-0 for nearly 10 minutes... what the ****?!?!?!

First game we've lost at home since November... christ a live!
