RvP was put on when Everton had the bus well and truly parked. It's just one of those situations where you'll need to be lucky to snatch a goal or influence the game much.

If Fellaini plays like that near enough every game of this season he would be damn quality.Going to be interesting seeing him with Mirallas who is a nice player with pace and good ball control.

He was marking Jagielka

Who was just interfering with the keeper, essentially a nusaince role not a real danger of scoring, hence you shove Walcott between the keeper and whoever is put there to stamp on the keepers feet, not your most powerful header of the ball. Every ball went to Fellani, he won every ball..... how they didn't put Vidic on Fellani I'll never know.

RVP at his bets can punch through a brick wall easily. done it time and time again for arsenal last season.

RVP will score wonder goals

Actually I feel sorry for him, not in the sense he has joined utd lol but that his start hasnt been what he hoped for. I still think of him as an arsenal player strangely.

He will come good though once he settles in. If not we will have him back at a knocked down price in January ;)

Same here...really strange seeing him in an Utd shirt tonight.

I reckon once he gets used to how Utd plays, he will score goals. To me he looked a bit lost out there tonight.

Apart from his tackling I don't think Scholes got caught on the ball tonight, only criticsm being he maybe played it a little too safe at times

Once again I don't think our injuries should be overlooked, no CB's meant our best midfielder in defence; that weakens both areas of the pitch, no Jones or Smalling also meant playing Valencia at RB meaning limited oppertunities to get him forward early enough if moves, it's obviously somewhat clutching at straws but still :p

Scholes had AGES on the ball and his very style dictates that he creates the time on the ball, him, Lampard, Xavi, Cesc, their strength is turning away from incoming tackles into a few yards of space to find that killer pass.

Scholes wasn't under severe pressure on the ball tonight at all, especially late on in the game, Everton were just incredibly tight in and around the box and left very very few chances for that killer throughball. The time was there on a plate, the space to make those passes, and the runs/movement from all the front line was awful which basically meant Scholes couldn't effect the game. Rooney/Welbeck/Kawaga constantly moved around in the same space and really none of them spent the game on the shoulder of the CB's nor making many/any runs behind. Kawaga needed to mix it up with some runs into the box, Rooney certainly needed to run at the defence more to open up gaps for others to pass into and Scholes/Rooney/Kawaga needed to shoot from range a few more times, encourage the defence to rush out to block shots.... makes space again.

I know Scholes creates time on the ball and is exceptionally good at it, but surely he would have been tired after a while. Someone there who could have challenged for the ball (a ball winner) would have been better. We need a player like that alongside Carrick or Scholes I think. We don't have one.

The other issue is that we had two central midfielders, one is Scholes and the other is Cleverley, what exactly is Cleverley's role? He seems to be doing a bit of everything.

Except the ball came in and Jagielka ran to the near post, what would the tiny player in between him and the keeper have done? In the end we had pretty much one good player in the air tonight, whoever he wasn't marking was going to be the target. If he'd marked Fellaini they would have just gone for Jagielka.

Essentially doing the running for Scholes. He was tracking back because Scholes wasn't particularly and supporting Kagawa because Scholes doesn't move that far forwards. Having Scholes is a massive luxury. You saw at the beginning of last season when Anderson and Cleverley were both playing how much easier the midfield battle is when you have two players who can move like that.

Precisely, that's what I'm getting at. Scholes is fantastic but we need someone alongside him who has bags of energy and can read the game very well. Carrick can do to some extent but he's not a tireless runner.

I thought Cleverley was a more creative midfielder and he seems to be a bit of a mixture...

Well MU had the option of playing a rightback if they wanted (Rafael) but instead they chose to play Valencia, you could tell from the prematch build up he wasn't best pleased at getting benched for a winger. Effectively he is now arguably 4th choice behind 3 people playing out of position...

It's not like Valencia didn't get forward either, he had plenty of opportunities. He just did exactly the same thing Nani and Young did though, hoof the ball into nobody.

Can see the conversation now:

"LOL you just spelt his name wrong dumbass"

"No worries, this kit must be the training one or something, they wouldn't seriously wear this out on the pitch would they?"

"Erm..."

Come on Rafael v Fellaini isn't an option ;) :p

Everton were impressive and deserved the win. Seeing signs that Scholes is starting to struggle when teams really take the game to us and Cleverly almost looking like an unproven youngster has really made me start to wonder if we might have needed to sign a CM in the window. Still, you can't blame SAF. How could he have predicted this being a problem area for the team. Besides, it's not even like theres anyone out there who could be better anyway.
Still, Kagawa did ok and I'm sure once we get Jones/Giggs in to shore up that midfield we will be ok :)

The system was **** tonight. We are not a 4-5-1/4-3-3 team, never have been. No point trying to fit players into a system that doesn't suit them. Go 4-4-2 and have the balls to tell a midfielder he isn't playing rather than trying to fit everyone in.
