Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [17th - 22nd December 2011]

are the highlights a fair reflection or did arsenal deserve a point?

personally thought Arsenal should have had that Penalty at the very least (not forgetting the "offside" goal), I think Arsene can feel a little hard done by

Just as Utd COULD have scored 8 today, City could have had a handful - but for one reason or another neither did. City Should have beaten Chelsea but got beat fairly and squarely.

Quality of some big decisions has definitely been dubious recently, thats for certain

The offside goal was offside and Richards had the ball flicked onto his arm from a couple of yards away but crucially, his arm never leaves his side.

The only question mark over the officials was how they kept Song on the pitch.

I'm not sure about that, every time they went near Song they dived over him like he had a force field, trying to force the yellow really.

You could maybe argue that with the Richards incident (and even then, more often that not a yellow would have been given) but not when he's tried his hardest to pull down Kompany in the 2nd half when he was breaking forward (fortunately for him Kompany shrugged the challenge off), caught Kompany with a late challenge again when he was breaking forward and then tripped Nasri/Aguero(?) down by the corner flag.

All of those were clear fouls (after being booked for kicking through the back of Silva) which could have easily resulted in yellows in their own right but when you put them all together (+ a few more fouls I didn't mention), for him not to get a 2nd booking was ridiculous.

personally thought while his arm was by his side, he seemed to move it slightly away while the ball was approaching

According to MOTD it wasnt offside (looking at the line drawn on the pitch)

Motd were wrong. For some reason they were basing their decision (and drew their line) on the position of the two players feet, which as I'm sure you know is wrong. It was a close call but it was offside.

As for Richards, there was a slight (instinctive) movement of his body as a whole but it certainly didn't look to me as if his arm moves away from his side at all.

I thought the goal was clearly onside, wasn't Silva behind Aguero when he headed it? Didn't watch the start of MOTD but iirc Sky showed one replay and it pretty much cleared it up?

The City goal was fine, we're talking about the Van Persie disallowed goal.

Rightly so.

I texted K1LLSW1TCH at the time, I thought when (Richards or Toure) bought Van Persie down in the first half in the area, in an attempt to clear the ball, I thought that was a pen.

fair point

It looked as though Richards arm moved seperately to me, although I would agree it was only slight.

Interesting point actually - because of the angle of flight / angle of his body, does the arm have to move away from his body for it to be a pen? (ie it can be moving against his body and still be a pen surely?)

Welbeck also seemed to be onside to me, fortunately that wasnt so important

No word on Lennon or Bale....Im worried

We've got replacements (Pienaar, Rose) but 'Arry seems reluctant to play them. I don't want to see us play Modric on the left of midfield again. He's totally wasted there.

The problem for Spurs is:

Matches in which King has played at least 45 minutes: P9 W9 D0 L0
Matches in which King hasn't: P6 W2 D1 L3

This is going to be so problematic over the Christmas period.

lennon out for 'weeks' apparently, i think bale should be ok though a start at chelsea may be a little too much. be interesting to see how we line up against chelsea. pienaar on the left, kranjcar on the right possibly?. we need a big show from sandro so modric and VDV can play their game.

Bale suffered a minor ankle knock in training so wasn't risked against Sunderland, should be fine for Thursday. As for Lennon, no-one knows.

Terry limped out of Chelski training today but should be fit. Just need someone to give him a big kick Thursday to take him out.
