Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [17th - 22nd December 2011]

Welbeck starting ahead of him is an absolute insult, especially in games against teams we expect to beat that park the bus, I mean who's gonna find space, pick a pass, produce a bit of magic to break the deadlock, Welbeck or Berba? It's ridiculous.

I can believe that given how good he looked for England recently but for us he looks confused every time he gets the ball and usually ends up making the wrong choice.

I believe somebody wrote a piece the other day that claimed that Downing was on course to create more chances than he did last season, when he was one of the highest chance creators in the league. My issue with him (after his promising start), hasn't been the quality of his delivery but his lack of involvement in the game. He's been a passenger in games for long periods.

He, along with Maxi and Kuyt were dreadful today though. I also thought that although he didn't put in a bad performance as such, Enrique was incredibly frustrating. We had lots of opportunities to get forward down the left and his decision making (both with and without the ball) was both hesitant and poor.

His time at the club will ultimately be judged on the amount of goals and assists he gets and to have nothing to show for nearly half a season at Liverpool is dreadful.

As I said at the start of the season, if Suarez doesn't score it's hard to see where the goals are going to come from because this is one of the least productive midfields we've had in years. Solid as **** but barely an ounce of creativity between them all. We desperately need to add pace and youth to our attack in January.

Downing has never been and wasn't signed to be a regular scorer and assists are not just down to him. He'd have had a fair few assists this season had the standard of our finishing been better.

There's no doubt that he's been poor overall after the first few weeks of the season but one thing I have no complaints about regarding him is the quality of his delivery.

Regarding the general lack of goals in our side, as I mentioned the other week, our biggest problem is finding a system that works as a whole. I believe that Suarez needs a partner up front with him and the only option at the moment is Carroll. However with his form and the loss of Lucas (meaning it's harder for us to play a 2 man central midfield), it's difficult for us to play that way. That in turn leaves us overly reliant on Suarez.

If/when Gerrard is fit, I'd get him to sit infront of the back 4 with Henderson and Adam either side of him and then play (and allow them to push right up) Bellamy/Downing (you need at least 1 of them in the side for their pace) on 1 wing and Kuyt/Maxi on the other with Suarez through the middle.

What's wrong with calling black players coloured?

Alan Hansen just did it on MOTD and it seems to have caused an uproar on twitter.
