Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [18th - 21st January 2014]

EDIT: Except Rafa has never done anything bad, he is a manager who did fantastic for Chelsea despite their inbred fans insulting him every week whilst he did a great job

There you go again? Inbred really? :/

Again, you don't like it when people point out your fans are all on the dole or thieves or victims.

I'll leave this dude before it gets daft :)

I've seen us play worse than that against Chelsea with a stronger team than we put out today, with Sir Alex in charge, so...

Your reasoning?

Nobody is debasing Moyes, purely over this 1 game.
Anyone can have an unlucky game.
Moyes is copping flack for the poor performance over the course of the entire season (so far).

With the stuff they chanted at him its the only possible reason. The same ones who booed and chanted murderers during the Hillsborough anniversary

To be fair to the ref, Hazard made it look much worse than it was with about 5 rolls on the floor. I wouldn't blame the ref for that Vidic has himself to blame for not even attempting to play the ball and giving the ref a decision to make.

Rumour has it that Man Utd have one of the biggest transfer budgets of any club. They basically haven't been spending any money on big players, apart from the big hair.

Moyes' big problem is that during the Summer (and probably January) transfer window(s), he was inept. Whichever player he went for, the deal fell through. And the one player he got (big hair), turned out to be a lemon. This highlighted the problem that Moyes has a lot to learn, when it comes to handling transfer targets. This is exactly where a big name manager should do much better. Moyes is not a big team manager. He can learn, though. But I dont feel that he should be learning at Man Utd.

The question is, would Moyes have got the job with Arsenal, Man City or Chelsea, if they were looking for a manager?

The transfer window was terrible but it wasn't solely Moyes fault. What he does for the rest of this month and ultimately in the summer will decide his ambition and future prospects for me at least. Not getting top four won't make it any easier but there will still be quality available, perhaps at a higher cost. See David Silva & co going to Man City.

I think we're prepared to let him learn, within reason. So far he's suffered as we've not had our 2 best players at different stages/together on the pitch.

Oh, I know that, and I'm far from sold on him, but I don't think today's match should be a reason to get the pitchforks out.

The thing about United is i dont think 1 person expected them to win today or even get a result for that matter, all the United fans i talked to all expected a Chelsea win. That is a worrying sign for me when that happens.

As someone said above the rumour is United have a huge amount of money to spend so will be interesting to see who comes in.

Moyes looks like he's half asleep. Not making any excuses at least though.

More than likely the players he wants "aren't available" this month. Pay more then... :p

The Vidic foul could have maybe been a yellow, maybe a red. Rafael was a blatant red and a disgusting tackle!

;)

Got the ball.

;)

Didn't think the tackle was overly bad from Vidic, although he did only go for the man and could easily cause injury so don't think a red is too out of order. Was a pretty bad thing to do, save it for when you're getting spanked on fifa

Ahoy Castiel, do you want Moyes out too? :p

I didn't want him in the first place...I've always felt that he was chosen because he was Fergie's mate rather than on his footballing heritage.

The removal of an established back room staff, replaced by an inexperienced playing/coaching role for Giggs and a couple of new coaches in Neville etc was a major mistake...his decision to go on holiday and leave recruitment to a new Chief Exec was another mistake, both Man City and Chelsea had new managers who both started immediately, getting to know their squads, strengthening and building relationships...Moyes was sunning himself on the beach. Moyes cannot seem to attract top class players, he has neither the personality or prestige, especially now when United are looking like missing out on Europe next season.

Moyes also talks too much about targets and budgets, this is unprofessional in my opinion. There is serious questions about his training regime, forgoing the old individually assessed regimes for a more group orientated system with the emphasis on strength and defensive tactics has proven especially hard on the likes of Van Persie and Nani etc, our creative players..although the harder regime has helped Rooney enormously.

Morale is down, selection doesn't help. Some players have complained that they have no time to build themselves up as unlike Fergie, Moyes doesn't release team sheets until match day.

I watch United each week, and I feel like I am watching Everton.

Moyes needed a DoF and he should not have released the back room staff until he had settled in and both he and Ed Woodward had found their feet. We need major strengthening in midfield and defence, we are talking major players, not squad players. Fellaini was a bad signing, cost too much, was a knee jerk reaction and is out of his depth...not unlike Moyes' appointment in my opinion. I do not think Fergie was intending to resign, and whatever the reason (illness?) everything happened too fast and too deeply.

Moyes is out of his depth, and nothing I have heard or seen so far has changed this.

What players have complained? All of what you have said is straight from the mouths of the football reporters.

In fact it is straight from the twitter feeds of the players..Rio Ferdinand being the main culprit...Van Persie's Dutch coaches being another source and Ryan Giggs being another. I rarely, if ever read the back pages. The level of injuries and the morale and lack of energy towards the end of matches speaks for itself.

I can't disagree with most of that, but I do think we'd be in a better place if RvP had been fit all season. As I've said before there are definitely more negatives than positives when it comes to Moyes, but if we sacked him tomorrow, who could replace him...

Moyes seems to always be saying that he "hopes" and "would like" to do things, rather than being more assertive and just doing them. His blaming of match officials and luck got a bit tiresome a while back too.

The best thing for now is that we hope he improves, but I really feel we have to sign someone big this month, even if it means massively overpaying. It'll lift the entire squad and that is priceless and could potentially get us top 4, which we will likely struggle to get otherwise.
