Will Liverpool take a stance and 'ban' him themselves for two games?
According to the rules the referee spoke to both players so he can hardly say he didn't see it. I believe if he doesn't mention it in his match report the FA can't really do anything?
AS someone(tom I think) was arguing, talking to doesn't mean he saw anything. Don't forget that two players ended up on the ground complaining, the ref can and should speak to both, see whats going on, tell them to calm down, etc. How many times does a ref talk to players like that with one saying "he was pulling my shirt keep an eye out next corner", ref's talk to players throughout the match.
He may have seen it, he may not have seen it, I dare say that if he saw it and decided not to do anything I'd be surprised. If you were a ref and one player bit another, would you let it go with a warning?
ULtimately even if he saw it, the media storm was in full swing by the final whistle, what goes in his report doesn't have to match what actually happened.
Tom, I do wonder about "previous" I think, but can't remember for sure, that his biting ban actually had some kinda suspended extra ban, though that could have been one of the other freaking awful things he did. If they do ban him, if they mention the previous bite will be interesting. I do think he should get a pretty damn hefty ban for something so frankly awful.
When he stayed on the pitch I was actually thinking it would be hilarious if he got a second yellow, got a ban for that, then had a ban added on for the bite. Seriously, can anyone remember if Barton missed games at the start of the french season for his ban in the prem league? I also wonder what would happen in regards to the racism ban, will they count that as previous bad behaviour, or would they count that as of a different nature, with the FA, its whatever they happen to want to do at any given time. The rules really do need to be massively more certain and not utterly random. Yes, rehashing every decision after games would be a nightmare and ruin the sport, this is another reason video replays have to happen.
Video replay, Ivanovic tells Benitez to challenge or throw a flag or whatever. 30 seconds later Suarez is sent off and most likely the correct result of Chelsea winning happens.
Even if they ban him for 8 games or something, Chelsea lost 2 points because of a player who shouldn't have been on the pitch. joke.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/19514515 yeah, Barton missed 12 games in france (not european games with them though IIRC).
From the Guardian
The federation said it had taken the Uruguay striker's previous conduct into account in reaching its punishment. Suárez still had a suspended one-match ban on his record him following a red card in the season-opening Johan Cruyff Bowl match in July.
He got a 7 match ban, they took into account him having a suspended ban and his previous conduct in general(being a **** ). Personally I think they should take it into account, no idea how long a ban, just 3 games would be a joke, 7 again seems fair enough.
