Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [20th - 24th April 2012]

You know when I said Cabaye has more potential than Modric.... thats why. 5 goals 6 assists to Modric's 3 goals 4 assists(iirc). Modric's best season is something like 4 goals 7 assists, Cabaye for Lille has done a 13 goal 8 assist season.

Faster, stronger, taller, more dynamic, better defensively, more goals in him, more assists in him. The passes from Cabaye for Cisse today and for the past few games have matched any of the best passers the league has had. He's been brilliant and this is his first season. For me Modric is a fantastic passer, but the rest of his game isn't anywhere near as good as Cabaye, hence 40mil for him being a joke. if Spurs can get 40mil for him they'll be laughing.

Cabaye better than Modric because of stats? Oh dear oh dear :o

Where in that post did I say because of stats exactly? Did you notice the list of things that make Cabaye better, and that the stats are only showing that he's involved more, created more and scored more and that past stats say Modric is having a fairly average season FOR HIM, as in he doesn't usually assist or score at a higher rate than he has done this year. Cabaye however in his first year maybe has scored/assisted a little less than the last several years.

Modric's almost entire game is passing, Cabaye has shown all season he is as good at passing, Cabaye again though is faster, stronger, has scored more, looks like he will always score more, has a better shot, has scored a variety of goals that you want an attacking midfielder to score. Long range screamers, freekicks, tap ins from three yards because he makes well timed runs into the box. He's better defensively, he's a better tackler, he's more capable of holding the ball up, or running on the ball. Oh wait.... that is all stats, my bad :rolleyes:

I'm not saying I agree or disagree about who is better but what a stupid statement.

If stats do not point out who is a better what does? Too many baseless opinions float round in football about who is/isn't good based on public opinion and one or two decent performances rather than looking at the numbers.

Why constantly refer to stats when you try and argue why player A's better than player B then? Song's got more assists than both so he's better right?

Again, did I or did I not ONLY use stats, or was that PART of my argument? The answer is blatantly obvious, why don't you say why you think Modric or Cabaye is better, rather than make a completely pointless, clearly stupid argument? I mean, seriously this is a discussion forum, but rather than discuss the point I made, you discussed how I made the point, and you are clearly wrong in suggesting I only used stats. If you want to talk about who is better, go ahead, if you don't, why did you bother to post at all?

I compare player A to player be, completely, NEVER with just stats, as I did both times comparing Cabaye and Modric.... so why would I agree that Song is better purely on stats?

Thought I'd quote the post you suggested was using only stats to make a point..... you see that twice as big paragraph with NO stats in........... well done.

I happened to be looking at Modric's stats the other day and despite the lack of direct assists/goals only Mata has made more key passes than him (whatever key passes are) and in terms of the number of passes made he's currently 5th in who's made the most successful amount of.... incidentally Cabaye isn't even in the top 20 on either list

Stats aren't the be all and end all... but they can be indicative...

Indeed, stats certainly paint a certain picture but don't give you the full image :)

It's like dot to dot, there are things you need to watch to be able to fill in the blanks.

A stat like goals / assists v starts won't tell you about the rest of their over all game.

bahahahahaha

So now you're going to the "stats" arguement....... and you don't have a clue what the stat means.

Well by the same token, Cabaye tops the list of being French, and Modric isn't even on it .............

I'd assume key passes are passes that start attacks that lead to goal attempts. Alonso never got many goals or assists for us yet he was involved in nearly every goal we scored just like he's involved in nearly all Reals goals.

Whoa, what a shot from Tiote.... reminds me of another shot I hate him for :p

EDIT:- wtf? Did Pardew just bet Tiote 10k he couldn't score today or something?

Ever since that goal verses Arsenal there nothing like the feeling you get from hearing shoot go round St.James park

Yeah if I think of key passes I would say the pass maybe before the assist, split a defense to give the ball to someone that person then being involved in a goal.
