Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [21st - 25th November 2014]

He's come out and said we don't need a defensive coach and this stubbornness is hurting us. I don't think bringing in a defensive coach would fix all the problems but there has to be some improvement...

It's not as simple as having a defensive coach. It's about finding the balance between attack and defence too. Last season we went all out attack and it worked. Contrary to popular belief our defence didn't cost us the title last season - practically every game where we shipped 3+ goals we still won. The failure was pure and simply down to not being able to break down Chelsea. The only game where you could pin the result on the defence letting the rest of the side down was Palace away but that was a direct consequence of us chasing more goals. Had we not needed to win by 6 or 7 we'd have seen that game out.

The criticism of the defence seems to have scared Rodgers and he's constantly chopping and changing the way we play to find a solution but he's failing. We've tried playing with a 2 man midfield which hasn't worked - our CM's simply aren't capable of sitting deep and dominating games and it brings out the worst in Gerrard and Henderson.

Today was probably the best example though of how lost we are. We've gone with a diamond in midfield (with Sterling up front which is another story) but then played a defensive RB and Johnson at LB, meaning he won't get forward much either. You cannot play a diamond without fullbacks pushing forwards. If he wanted our fullbacks to stay back then he had to play a different system.

There's too many compromises lately. Rodgers needs to find his balls again and set the side up how he knows best.

I don't think the Chelsea game was the big loss for us last year, it was more the draws/losses to the likes of Hull, Villa and West Brom that did us. The Chelsea game and in particular the 2nd half season run in we had was unprecedented. We needed to win something like 14-15 games on the spin (never been done before in the PL era I would add).

If you are going to play a diamond, you need a capable DM who can read the game and understands how to play the defensive side , we have one of those but he plays in Gerrards position and our captain has to play every minute of every PL game going. So will be gone in the January window unfortunately.

Can't really blame the title loss on one game, especially one we didn't have to win and got unlucky with slippy

Hull/City/Chelseax2/WBA/Villa were all winnable games and we scored in all but one where the defence actually did let us down, most memorably Kolo at WBA and Mignolet at City, neither of which were to do with us attacking so much.

Lolerpool. It's so un lol worthy I might ban whoever posts it from now on.

Wasn't it the rules already that you can't go around calling teams these hilarious names, should try banning the trolls too

They also mentioned the Palace game which I forgot. 3-0 up with 10 minutes to play and it ended up 3-3 :(

Just go lie down, Purdy. Have a cuppa or something.

Why? I enjoy discussing the result and about our team, while you have some ****heads coming in with their troll comments who never have anything done to them but rather just the people who reply to them, the rules are balls and you know it.

Meh, didn't matter in the end, as soon as they got 1 you knew it would happen, seeing Suarez cry and Stevie actually being a leader about it was the only sad/happy thing about that game, title was already gone.

we will lose

but

there does seem to be movement off the ball. that never ever ever happens for spurs.

So discuss it and stop crying.
