Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [21st - 25th November 2014]

uurgh. davies did his best impression of a big wimp and kane just looked at the ball as it came out

There was a BBC article about this game earlier this weekend which put the title loss here (although the team was heavily behind on gd)

Sounds like the high standards of bbc articles. Blaming a title loss on one game. Might as well just skip 37 other ones and decide only one matters and save us 9 months.

I don't think the Chelsea game was the big loss for us last year, it was more the draws/losses to the likes of Hull, Villa and West Brom that did us. The Chelsea game and in particular the 2nd half season run in we had was unprecedented. We needed to win something like 14-15 games on the spin (never been done before in the PL era I would add).

If you are going to play a diamond, you need a capable DM who can read the game and understands how to play the defensive side , we have one of those but he plays in Gerrards position and our captain has to play every minute of every PL game going. So will be gone in the January window unfortunately.

Probably the wrong choice of words re the Chelsea game. The point I was making was that our defence didn't cost us the League. Yes we shipped a lot of goals but we were always going to playing how we did. The net result of our style meant we challenged for the title that we wouldn't have done any other way.

As for the diamond & Gerrard, I disagree. He's our play maker, the defensive responsibility are mainly on the 2 that play either side of him. Again, look at last season, it was when we fell on that system that we went on a run of games where we blitz team after team.
Can't really blame the title loss on one game, especially one we didn't have to win and got unlucky with slippy

Hull/City/Chelseax2/WBA/Villa were all winnable games and we scored in all but one where the defence actually did let us down, most memorably Kolo at WBA and Mignolet at City, neither of which were to do with us attacking so much.

Individual mistakes weren't what I was getting at. No matter how we set up and how well we defended as a team Kolo still makes that back pass and Mignolet makes that mistake.

All the games where we looked defensively at sea collectively we ended up winning except Palace which we would have won in different circumstances.

Any Rodgers quotes yet? Want to hear what fantastic human beings our players our with such huge commitment and how we were a wee bit unlucky

1.Starts by praising Lambert.
2.Low on Confidence. Intensity of game has dropped of. Conceded poor goals.
3.He as manager takes full responsibility for it. No intensity.
4. We aim to be tighter. More defensive resolute. We got the goal, and that should be enough.
5.Working on defending. Working hard to be compact. Worked to manage the game. Try to work game from behind.
6. Comes with experience, lot of young players, new players.
7.Thought Free kick was unfortunate (Skrtels) both pulling shirts.
8.Never a free kick to begin with.
9. Disapointing result for us. Especially considering level we have been for past couple of seasons.
10. Palace were honest and fair, it was our own physicality we weren't aggressive enough in our play.
11.We didn't pass the ball in way we expect.
12. Rodgers said to players after we have to become a team, have to work harder, had disapoining results, we need to get together and work hard, and look at ourselves.
13. Manager included, I am responsible for results, the manager needs to take responcibility, and that is something I will look at deeply.
14. He doesn't think its a crisis but its not at expectancy level, certainly wasn't in the plan, have to face reality of it, not been good enough.
15. Group of players is good enough, and we need to start turning it round very quick.

Saw this on RAWK but wheres it come from? Would rather read how he actually said it than someone summing up bullet points tbh

Needs to not be mentioning that shirt pull regardless, yes it was a foul by Gayle but we were down 2-1 anyway and didn't look like we had a hope of scoring, also a draw away to that lot is pathetic, they are garbage.
