Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [22 - 26th December 2012]

The law states a player is active only when they touch the ball or if they are "preventing an opponent from playing or being able to play the ball." Clearly Cisse didn't touch the ball nor did he prevent Evans from playing the ball directly as Evans had hold of him rather than the opposite.

There is no debate as the decision was correct, but the law is utterly bat**** insane.

Yup.

Any player in the direct line of site of players involved, or standing close enough to be deemed that defenders would react to their being there should be classed as interfering with play.

I don't know the exact change in the rules but it happened a couple years ago and is entirely stupid. The previous rule worked so much better, if someone was say over by the corner flag, but the pass is to someone in the box who is onside that should be classed as not interfering with play, but in the Evan's situation it absolutely should be.

De Gea will position himself relative to the people running into the box, as do the defenders and what they do depends on the danger level they perceive. I don't know why they changed it to be so obscure and stupid nor why they haven't gone back to the old rule which made SOOOO much more sense.

i really enjoyed the villa, spurs game but then why wouldn't i? it was a breeze.

good to see spurs actually building an attack on the box and as a consequence score 4 goals. AVB needs to implement more of this into our game. freund was great too, punching the air with every goal.

it can also be no coincidence we keep another clean sheet when vert plays in the centre.

villa were awful though. ok they're a young team. so what? do the fans want to see a young team get drubbed? of course they don't. i don't even know what formation they were playing but there were massive gaps at times. don't know if it's inexperience or lambert who is at fault for that. lambert should never have taken that job, same with rodgers at liverpool. i'd love it if their previous club finished above their current clubs. conceding 3 to stoke? lolz.

Lambert is doing a good job when you consider the clubs circumstances.

However Rodgers, not so sure. That’s a difficult club to manage for so many reasons. Liverpool are too big to be pants and they will find their way but is Rodgers the right man for the job? I would say no.

i can't believe the fans haven't turned on rodgers yet. some of the goals they've shipped to clubs not particularly renowned for being high scoring is bizarre.

OK, so my post saying that Liverpool played **** last night and deserved to lose the game is deleted and I'm told to "Behave", yet crap like this...

...is allowed to stay? Why is that?

Actually you directly referred to us as bin dippers, nice try though lad

Edit - I do wonder who has the higher unemployment rate also

Pity that wasnt on Huth and to the neck

lol

Huth would have stood up even with a broken neck and strung the dirty ****** up by his teeth. Then sent him packing outta the stadium :)

Pretty good performance by Stoke last night. Did not really have to work too hard to be honest. Closing them down and allowing them to make mistakes was enough.

Just a shame we conceded, but hey it was a given that pool would get a penno at some point after all their moaning.

All in all, not a bad win for the mighty reds :) and keeps our good form going.

This is a fair (and correct) examination of it all but I can imagine the amount you chaps would be ranting if we had got a draw out of the game :p

The law needs updated/changed to reflect situations like this.

ferguson and phelan getting in the assistants face is ridiculous. bullying the poor bloke!

This is the biggest issue of the weekend for me, not just Ferguson (though he was the worst offender) but all managers getting into refs. Players got grief for doing it but managers seem to get away with it, well certain managers do, Pardew getting in the refs face (admittedly with a timid shove added in) equalled a three game touchline ban. They should roll this out to even getting in the refs face, would be nice to see Fergie absent from the touchline for a bit :p hopefully he will then resume his refusal to speak to the media which I can see being the only way to stop him giving the abuse he does to refs as the FA clearly have no backbone to act on the situation.

But then the Evans goal would have not stood either, as he and many others were offside when the free kick was taken.

So it all swings in roundabouts basically. Anyway Fergie is a ***** and needs punishing for his actions at half time. Anyone else at any other ground and they would have been sent to the stands...

It should happen, it wont. He'll get a paltry fine in public and the FA will pretend they are being all tough. Wait until its someone other than Fergie then we might get some action on it.

Oh I agree,

The only thing that will come out of all this is that the linesman will never do a Man U game again, maybe even a PL game! Neither will the ref as well probably...

Alex Ferguson owns the FA, simple

According to SSN, hes not being punished by the FA for his antics over the weekend.

Amazing, you couldnt make this shizzle up even if you tried.

The FA really are a bunch of turds at the best of times.
