Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [24th - 26th August 2012]

I just don't understand the delusion, you've got a rich owner who's repeatedly spent millions bringing quality players to your club so why not just accept the fact he did it again and while us and City refused to pay Hazards agent the 8m (IIRC) he was asking RA had no such problem. You're only embarrassing yourself with this whole 'he moved for footballing reasons' tosh.

Hazard hasn't claimed to be a life long Chelsea fan with blue blood running through his veins so why do you have such a problem admitting the only reason he moved to your club is because RA paid what other clubs were unwilling to?

Why do you think its a given right that any player should only choose Manchester as a destination to pay football? Hazard doesn't probably support Man U nor does he probably care for their history, why is it so unbelievable he wanted to play in London for a massive club?

You're sounding extremely bitter.

I expect Chelsea do pay him a mad amount but I'm sure Man U could have stomped up a similar wage like they did when Rooney started crying etc

So that's rooney out for 2 months. 1 month with a nasty gash and the other month because apparently he won't be match fit and needs a month to get back firing again. :D

I think there might be a falling out on the horizon with Rooney, the club have shown ambition to the point he might not be a guaranteed starter anymore. Now that will be funny.

and why people thought that kagawa was a better player. Dont get me wrong, kagawa has enhanced UTDs team, but if you had 1 slot on your team to fill and money was not an issue, id pick Hazard over kagawa.

So, The_Running_Man, did we control the game vs Fulham and not have our midfield played out of it?

'Cos we played crosses with a striker over 6ft... ;)

Fraid not. 3-2 isnt the kind of control i like to see. The number of saves DDG had to make did not inspire me that we were fully in control just yet.

Dembele was in control.

No, that is why everyone is saying we should buy felaini last week and now dembele.

Because they simply brushed aside our players and even when out numbered 2-1 and being fouled he still comes away with the ball.

I dont think thats what he said at all - the decision was taken out of Hazard's hands when City & Utd wouldnt pay the agent what he wanted (Im sure Hazard would have said EXACTLY the same thing had he signed for any of the top teams in the EPL)

Its all done and dusted now, lets just see how Chelase fare against the top teams (no dis-respect to Newcastle, but they still have to prove they can repeat last year's success, and they were playing away - Chelsea have had 3 moderately easy teams to play so far)

I guess I shouldnt be surprised this coming from you.

Idle media speculation about the "falling out" (and bare in mind SAF said "I havent seen it, but probably 4 weeks" and media picked up on it and repeated infinitum.

What media speculation, I haven't seen any. Funnily enough it's something I feel myself, that maybe there just might not be a starting place for him any longer almost guaranteed. Especially when he seems to take forever these days to get back in form. A lay off giving another time to gel with RVP might put him under threat.

But no you keep with the barbed comments.

Mannone is in goal for Arsenal today, news like that puts a smile on your face doesn't it. :)

Hmm it'll probably be Fabianski standing in, not Mannone. Arsenal.com only has this about injuries in the match preview:

There is a minor doubt over Wojciech Szczesny (rib) but Lukasz Fabianski returns after missing the Sunderland game with a back complaint.

Team news:

Arsenal: Koscielny (calf), Rosicky (tendon), Sagna (leg), Frimpong (knee), Wilshere (ankle)

Stoke: Pennant (thigh), Whitehead (suspended)

Arsenal were interested in him a couple of years back and probably still were this summer but Chelsea paid more than double Arsenal's record transfer fee and no doubt a tasty wage packet to boot. Realistically the only clubs that could compete in a bidding war would have been MC, PSG, the Spanish giants and maybe MU although having brought in Kagawa I don't think they planned to spend that sort of cash.

Judging by this article Arsenal were priced out and it was Chelsea and MC competiing for him. In fact for all we know there may have been a bidding war with MC hence a pretty big fee: http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepag...-Wenger-wishes-he-could-have-Eden-Hazard.html

Slightly worrying though if Arsenal don't have the money as they have been very balanced in the transfer market in recent years so despite constantly being told the stadium move had no impact on finances it makes you wonder what happened to all those £30m+ warchests Wenger allegedly had at his disposal. Maybe they should consider buying fewer players in the £10-15m bracket to free up funds for the superstars.

Not to be too arsey but, Highbury, 60mil wage bill, last year(infact the season before) 120mil wage bill, this is incredibly obvious and the new stadium or lack of financial power is an excuse, a poor excuse and an incorrect excuse.

AT Highbury that would have put us at a 40-50mil debt every single season at the moment. The extra money has gone on high wages for youths compared to other clubs, the worst players in the team on 40-60k a week, a HUGE squad, and constantly buying a bunch of 8-10mil players who end up being crap.

Our money is tied up in Wengers truly awful wage policy, massive waste in the transfer market. Arsenal still have 100mil+ in a cash account, though clubs like having it as it generates interest which the club can claim as club income. Fact is Arsenal CAN at any time buy a 30mil player, but the real problem is, we liked Hazard YEARS ago, we could have bought him years ago before anyone else jumped, instead we bought crap years ago, and then couldn't afford Hazard today. This is Wenger's masterplan, and its inept and failing.

Fundamentally it's not working for Arsenal because Wenger buys someone like Diaby, I have no issue with that at all, but when its clear he's both not good enough and not physically capable of being part of the team..... instead of cutting our losses and saving 10mil + in wages, we give him a new improved contract, and rinse repeat that for a dozen + players and you're talking the difference between being able to afford Hazard, Aguero, Mata, and not being able to.

5mil here, there and everywhere add's up to epic title winning squad, or flushing it down the tube on players who aren't even playing.

You can't win things nor make money, nor afford new top players if you have players you know aren't close to good enough, and continue to give them high wages.

Diaby, 3mil a year, Song, 3 mil a year(thankfully no more) Walcott wants 5mil a year, Denilson, god knows who is paying his wage at the moment, Djourou, 3mil a year, Squillaci, 3mil a year, Chamakh, 4 mil a year, Santos, 3-4mil a year, Gibbs, 2-3mil a year, Mert, 4mil a year, Gervinho, 3-4mil. That's easily well over 25mil a year on players who, some play, some almost never play, and none who are good enough, ignoring transfer fee's, signing on fee's(which conservatively is 45mil for that lot). That is waste, Gervinho didn't look good, has never looked good and I can't imagine what the scouts saw in him.

Fact is, if Wenger had cut players who clearly weren't good enough and stopped throwing stupid panic money at stupid players, Santos, Mert, I honestly can't imagine what scouts saw in Gervinho to make them buy him, Squillaci the same, we'd be swimming in cash.

Wenger used to have an eye for a player, the right kind of player, and played very different football. he's actively buying different quality of player to before, wasting more money than ever, and making the team worse year on year.

Financially Arsenal are rock solid and a new manager clearing out the trash and buying in quality players and there is no reason Arsenal can't do well again, we will not with Wenger.

Surely that will be three months. It will take him at least another month to accept that RVP is better. That will of course take us nicely to the January transfer window. :D

Hope its true. Glad to see that even with agger suspened carraghar is still not in the 1st eleven. Apart from that not looking foward to the hiding we going to get.

Hmm not looking forward to todays match against Stoke, i hope we can score some goals but having Mannone in between the sticks isnt something that fills me with great joy.

At least Podolski and Giroud are starting up front although id rather see Podolski on the left with Giroud in the middle.

Just hoping for 3 pts today, its going to be a tough physical game and i wouldnt be surprised if a few of our players get their legs broken or something ;):p
