Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [24th - 28th October 2014]

To be fair the league hasn't really got going yet, it's totally unpredictable.

Huge improvement from us today but it'll count for nothing if we don't continue to improve.

Van Gaal has had to overhaul the squad and brought in many foreigns players as well as not having much time to get his team together after getting Holland to the semi-finals of the world cup as well as him having to adapt to a new league.

Moyes just took over from where Fergie left off and changed nothing other than make them worse.

Which are rarely given so not so much stonewall, more like rare

Shirt pulling isn't often given but having your arm around the other guys neck often is. One of the reason a lot of those aren't given in a box is because the ball doesn't end up near the pair tussling so the ref decides it wouldn't have made a difference. Ivanovic was a couple of inches from making contact right infront of goal while he's being VERY obviously fouled by Smalling.

Those are usually given, terrible decision. Realistically Chelsea should have been a man up for the majority of the game and instead the game changes on a terrible sending off the other way at the end of the game.

Pochettino out. He has done very little right and a hell of a lot wrong. There is nothing to suggest he is the manager to build a dynasty with.

This is another avb in the making.

Finally show the replay, never a yellow card, completely accidental contact, ridiculous yellow card. The first was 100% not a yellow card, even if they are saying it's for dissent, you can see his reaction, he didn't get in the ref's face nor scream, he's just saying it's not a foul... which it absolutely was not. Neither yellows, I can see the second being a freekick but it certainly wasn't a yellow. AWful ref as per usual.

Yep it just looked like he was letting his frustration out at the fact Di Maria just threw himself to ground. Didn't look like dissent to me, the ref probably cant tell if on the 2nd foul he done it accidently so i dont think that was a terrible decision on giving a yellow card for that.

You will never know that if you keep sacking managers.

It's a fair point. In one year I am fairly certain we will be back to the avb impotent nonsense we witnessed last year.

I'm so bored of giving managers 18 months only to have first suspicions confirmed.

Chelsea need to keep Costa fit, Premier League is a cake walk for them if they do.

The rest of the teams are miles away from Chelsea, all of them have regressed. So much for the quality of the league.

After watching Real v Barca last night and this tonight, LOL.

Whilst you obviously can't directly compare, he didn't do wonders at Southampton initially, the first three months results were a bit crap but once he was properly embedded and had the team as he wanted it, they managed their best ever league finish. He clearly has the ability to deliver but it won't necessarily come quickly.

At Tottenham maybe it won't be quickly enough but I'm sure he'll be happy enough with the subsequent payout if he gets binned.

Whats a reasonable time frame for managers to be given a go then at Tottenham. Let's be fair, they aren't a Chelsea or City with pretty much endless funds.

Under Pochettino, Southampton looked a handy well organised side who played attractive football. Football fans want instant success but surely thats at odds with a new manager getting to know the players he has inherited and bedding in players he has bought ?

Dowd pretty much set out his stall in the game though by booking someone in the 3rd minute for something innocuous, so the players knew what to expect.

I suppose its all down to the actual teams. I think spurs fans (and Liverpool fans to certain degree) think to highly off themselves. I say this because I can not see anywhere in the last 20 years were spurs have been up there apart from the bale years. So complaining about being were they are now is unreasonable considering its spurs.

Always helps when you have 90% of the tv money between you of course

Remember LvG has a pretty un-developed squad, compared to majority of last season's top four , but especially Chelsea

It may be a different style to La Liga, but it was still engrossing (even if there were a few parts of the game which were anything but full on)

All things considered that was another good weekend for Chelsea.
Would've preferred 3 points today of course especially as we really should've won but drawing away at one of the top teams from the 2nd tier of the league is never a bad result.
6 points clear of Man.C. after 9 games is a great place to be and I hope Southampton can keep up their great form as that will bring major panic to everyone aiming for a CL spot.
Rafael marking Drogba is just brilliant by the way and Dowdy Phil is still a complete ****.
Ivanovic's yellows were dubious at best and if he's going to allow headlocks at corners he needs to make both teams aware before the game.
