Whats a reasonable time frame for managers to be given a go then at Tottenham. Let's be fair, they aren't a Chelsea or City with pretty much endless funds.
Under Pochettino, Southampton looked a handy well organised side who played attractive football. Football fans want instant success but surely thats at odds with a new manager getting to know the players he has inherited and bedding in players he has bought ?
I suppose its all down to the actual teams. I think spurs fans (and Liverpool fans to certain degree) think to highly off themselves. I say this because I can not see anywhere in the last 20 years were spurs have been up there apart from the bale years. So complaining about being were they are now is unreasonable considering its spurs.
Maybe get rid of the plonkers who are buying the trash at Spurs?
Levy has maintained a general upward trend since being chairman. He has made some mistakes, but we have been on an upward trend.
Recently, we have had real trouble finding the manager to take us forward. Redknapp topped out, AVB wasnt the answer and neither was tiger tim.
They weren't trash before coming to Spurs. They come with really exceptional records of previous success.
Soldado was the top european goalscorer outside Ronaldo, Ibra, Messi and Falcao! What did we do to him?
Cagey stuff. I expected more from maureen
You were on an upward trend, 4 years ago. Levy and the club as a whole topped out just as much as Redknapp did.
I remember getting shot down for questioning why some Spurs fans were so against Redknapp when he had you sitting 4th in the table. Without being disrespectful, you've got to be realistic about what's possible for Spurs right now. Ever since City's takeover there's been 5 clubs with more resources than Spurs, varying from quite a lot more to **** loads more.
For Spurs to break into the top 4 and more importantly, establish themselves there will take the work of a genius.
Redknapp was fortunate that his spell in charge coincided with City only just establishing themselves, Liverpool's mess with their owners and Chelsea going through a sticky patch but ultimately he had you punching above your weight. Ever since then Spurs have fallen back to where finances dictate they should finish.
I can't say I've paid too much attention to Spurs this season but I like Poch. He took Southampton onto another level and performing beyond where they should have been. He does have a certain style of play though that requires certain types of players and I'd give him time to build his side before I judge him.
Why? He's always been a cautious manager and showed no signs of changing since coming back to Chelsea.
Up until the Mikel change Chelsea were on top in the 2nd half and it looked like they were going to put Utd away. Had Costa or Remy been fit it might have worked but with Drogba up top there was no pressure on Utd's back line and they were able to keep building attack after attack and although they weren't creating anything, it only takes a set-play or a bit of bad luck to cost you and that's exactly what happened.
It's not absurd. Even the very best managers have a style of play that they take from club to club and you can't expect any player to fit into that style of play. Look at Mourinho (as I know from our conversation last week you look at him as a measuring stick for other managers), it took him over a year to build the side he wants and he had a much stronger starting point and more money to play with too.
Poch's a very good coach and will be coaching the players he has to play his way but it's not always straight forward. If a player simply isn't capable of playing in a certain way there's not much a coach can do.
