Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [28th - 31st August 2015]

I've not said there aren't players out there that can improve you or whether anybody had to be signed or not.

Forget 'reports' because quite often they're bs. Look at what's actually happened. Giving Rooney that mega contract, spending ott on Fellaini, Mata and Di Maria and spending what you did to loan Falcao were not business decisions. Nobody can say any of those decisions made good financial sense or represented good value. Woodward has shown that he'll spend what it takes to tie down, sign and loan players.

.

and you are completely ignoring the "moyes" situation with Woodward in his first summer in charge, and how desperate (even in Jan) Utd NEEDED to buy any players at all.

I don't think those two signings prove anything at all

Not to mention the fact that there are glaring holes in the squad still, and Utd have the money to buy players who would fit in those holes and do a good job to gaurentee (as much as possible anyway) the club continue to move forward. Between Woodward and LvG they are ignoring them and continueing as they are which is mystifying to say the least

And Fellaini can't even master standing onside.

He was the same at Everton. Laughably bad and starying offside.

If today doesn't show LvG that United need a new striker and keeper...

And a manager. Seriously how long are you going to stay with this dinosaur? 3 months he said to get them playing his way. Is this drivel his way? You could forgive him if he was a manager plucked from Southampton on £1m per year but this guy is just Steve Bruce with an Dutch accent.

Just got back from the United game. Epic.

The girlfriend's first game (used my brothers season ticket) and I think I've got her hooked on football. The kid in front of us was covering his ears after her screaming :D

I'm only ignoring random reports and theories. I'm looking at facts and reality. But carry on as you will.

Nothing random about it - Utd were desperate to sign players when Moyes had just joined and they couldn't get anyone (Fabregas and a few others from Europe, one if not both full backs from Everton, several others - even SAF had to be drafted in as part of the negotiation team just to get Fellaini across the line, it was that desperate)

But as always you continue to believe what you will

At the end of the day players have been available this summer that would have strengthened Utd considerably - but instead they go to other clubs who will pay the transfer fees.

Brilliant :D

3 years he said which I believe is how long his contract is. Still an awful long time to make amends but hey ho let's hope he's gone next year if he's still messing about.

There have been a lot of reports that Utd have shied away from deals because they are too expensive - even though they are comparative (or even cheap) in comparison to some other EPL deals going through in the same time frame.

There aren't many of these reports really.

The main reason appears to be LvG not wanting the player, and/or the player choosing to go elsewhere, mainly the former, it seems.

I think LvG puts far too much faith in his 'philosophy' and in the players he currently has. He's done a good job of getting rid of the deadwood, but some of the current first team players need to become substitutes, and we need at least a couple of new starters.

Look at the current squad and then consider the fact De Gea and Hernandez are likely going, it's very thin, unbalanced and lacks quality all over.

oddly I thought that was a good Man U performance.

Sliced open a tad easy in defence.

Apart from the dropped points it could be a lot worse.

It was 3 months. He said it takes him 3 months to turn a team around and get them playing his way. I think the United job has become a great pension fund for him. He's already indicated he will be handing the club over to someone else, so with the results of the style offootball so far they may as well cut their losses and find someone longer term.

The only skill he hasn't lost is dealing with the press. You would tolerate his dire football if your Everton but it's one of the richest clubs in the world and most successful in the EPL. I can't see the other big clubs in the world putting up with his drivel. I don't blame Woodward, I wouldn't give this pillock any more money either.

Really...?

Yep.

Seemed solid in midfield and put good some good attacks together.

The long ball stuff at the end was a bit desperate and the defence, as mentioned, was weak.

Swansea were smash and grab today, we were not played off the park.

Encouraged by the performance.

I missed the first 20 minutes so can't comment on that but I don't remember too many good attacks from Utd in the rest of the game. In fact they only looked threatening at the very end with a few mad scrambles after lumping it up to Fellaini.

I thought it was more of the same dire stuff we've been seeing for a while now.

Swansea weren't smash and grab, any smart team will let us have the ball, as we can do nothing with it.

Our 'solid' defence, which has been the high point of the season so far, let 2 goals in and there was a period where Swansea could have scored 2 or 3 in the space of a few minutes in the first half.

I disagree.

We put some good stuff together and were the better team in midfield.

Swansea could and should have scored in the first half as should have Mata.

Smash and grab maybe a tad harsh to Swansea but at no point in this game do I remember Man U being under concerted pressure?

I think this team will deliver, will take a little time right and certainly an established CB is needed. The Shelvey non offside at the end exposed us massively..

OK after a bit of research he did say that but then regretted it, then later on said 3 years.

I don't know what all the fuss is about, if Man.U. can just get a few more crosses in per game they'll be fine and their stats will improve big time.

De Gea is a huge loss this season, he was probably your player of the season last season you'd have struggled for top four without him.

Rooney is like a roaming black hole in midfield most of the time, he just plays safe passes backwards or sideways to help pad his passing success rate.
