Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [2nd - 5th March 2012]

When somebody is so wrong there's no bother in trying to change their mind.

Well that's a constructive reply. Do enlighten me was RVP involved massively today or did he have 2 chances and score 2 goals?

Like I said you Arsenal lot seem to be extremely sensitive and unless someone concedes and simply names him the best player in the world you throw a hissy fit

Wenger has just summed it up perfectly, Chesney was MOTM today not RVP

Sublime, perfect, amazing etc??

Possibly the best player by far in the EPL...not far behind Ronaldo and Messi either. Absolutely tearing up the EPL, i just thank god that hes playing for us rather than against us.

I really do hope he stays this summer, signs a new contract for £150k plus because clearly he deserves to be on big wages. With that i hope Wenger does buy some decent world class players to show RVP that hes serious about winning trophies.

I can only imagine that if we had Fab still with us, how much better we would be doing with RVP in attack and Fabregas supporting him with his terrific vision and passes...just a shame that Wilshere wont be playing for us this season...would have been interesting to see how RVP and him would have linked up this season.

Viva RVP!!!!:D:D

Think the excitement got to you a bit too much, Van Persie is an excellent finisher, but nowhere near Ronaldo or Messi in terms of overall ability. Regardless of where Messi or Ronaldo are on the pitch, they have the ability to make even the best defenders look amateur and score brilliant goals.

Van Persie doesn't have the same effect when he is on the ball, he has a brilliant eye for goal yes, but can he get the ball on the half way line and blitz world class defences apart.. Sadly not.

No idea how we managed to win that. I was sitting with a Liverpool fan next to me the whole game raging at their finishing, convinced Carragher would lose it for them, while I was adamant we looked liable for a mauling. We literally don't play the passing triangles any more that let us boss possession by always giving players an option to move the ball onto, they've evaporated completely. :(

RVP, in addition to his goal... well, didn't get to see the ball that often except when he dropped deep into midfield, but there we two times in the game when he kept the ball with Liverpool players around him via some fancy footwork that had me grinning. Makes it looks so easy too.

:D somebody doesn't watch him too closely, what's your agenda? He's never been a goal scorer in his career, he's just been forced to add it to his game

I have to agree with Wenger, to me as much as i love RVP and want his babies:p...today the star for Arsenal was Chesney without a doubt, made some spectacular saves ie the penalty for one and a few others to keep us in the game....thank **** we have finally got our GK situation sorted out, hoping he doesnt get injured anytime soon and the best thing is that hes still young so has plenty of time to mature into a better keeper.

All we need to do is sort our shoddy defence out for a start, get some players in that can score so we dont rely too much on RVP to win us games.

Still a bit shocked how we came away with 3 pts today...we definitely didnt look like winning at any point, looked more likely to draw or lose with the amount of sheer chances Liverpool had today.

He is right about everything bar making great defenders look amateur, RVP can do that in and around the box, doesn't do much else.

I don't give a **** about Arsenal tbh. My reply was simply in response to an attitude that some people seem to have that I do not understand.....that strikers have to do more than score goals. I have no problem with a striker only touching the ball twice if he scores 2 goals from them....that is a very good game imo.

People say similar about Hernandez, that he isn't a good player and only scores goals, but I have never understood that POV.:)

If we needed further confirmation he's wrong, Purdy agrees with him, tom84 does, all we need now is dm to say it and we will have the full set

Edit - and Gustov, nearly forgot one

Which is what hes paid to do:confused:..hes not paid to be a defender but ive seen him plenty of times this season come from behind to nick the ball off a player.

He made your defenders look like amateurs for both his goals, thats all thats asked of him, job done and boom 3 pts:D

Wat?

We were comparing him to Ronaldo and Messi who have a lot more to their game and play as strikers at times, nothing to do with tracking back.

And yes, he did make our defenders look like amateurs, I said he could do it to great ones, Jamie Carragher isn't one so I'll just assume you were agreeing with me anyways.

Firstly, I wouldn't say any of the Premier league defences are world class(Man City's in the best of a bad bunch). Whats my agenda? Never heard anybody say that before.. You mad because I'm not sucking up to RVP?

I can't explain what I mean very well, but look at Ronaldo or Messi play then compare it to RVP, you will see clearly that although he is good, he isn't even close to their standard. He is an excellent player, but they are just world class. He has never been a goalscorer? He doesn't work particularly hard so what has he been doing since he joined Arsenal?

Who has got a world class defence then?

Edit: To be taken with a pinch of salt but someone has Tweeted that there was a dressing room bust up involving Kenny and a few players.

Next year should be interesting if we clear some deadwood. Podolski, Goetze, Hazard and Jan Vertonghen in. Lansbury, Wilshire, Frimpong, Ramsey and Miyachi are all still young and really exciting. As always, it could be our season, but it probably wont :P

People really seem to forget what RVP can do just because he's been scoring a lot for Arsenal for a year. He didn't start off at Arsenal as a striker, but more of a winger, his first great goals often came by way of dribbling round a bunch of players and scoring a ridiculous goal from a stupid angle having come up the wing then run into the box and shot.

He's an excellent passer, great vision, used to be great at freekicks. He use to play almost exclusively in a Bergkamp style withdrawn striker role and before that as a winger and he was excellent at both, his WHOLE game is very very very good, a great goal scoring record is something he's picked up in the past couple years and thats from playing in a team where he has to stay upfront on his own, isolated without any support most of the time.

Just because he's playing one way in a certain formation now doesn't mean that is all he's capable of.

Those signings are a bit more than optimistic to say the least.
