Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [2nd - 6th February 2018]

I watched the game on a train on a tablet, at the time thought the second pen was well harsh. IE defender looking up at ball, see's attacker last moment and pulls out. Attacker goes down like a sack of spuds with a brush of a knee that barely makes any contact.

However, I have just seen another angle and he kicks the back of his leg. It's a pen.

I want to review the point re offside mind. Roll on MOTD.

Entertaining stuff though :)

(the first pen was a joke, never a pen).

I certainly wouldnt agree with Pochettino that they were "much, much, much better" than Liverpool. In my books, Liverpool took the first half, Spurs took the second half, so a draw was probably the fair result. Not sure how someone can declare that their side was "much, much, much better" when they were only good for one half of a game.

lol at the bleeters denying the 2nd pen wasn't a pen

sweetest thing about this is that i reckon these 2 points dropped by liverpool today will end up meaning they miss out on top 4. all courtesy off VVD the £75m man

Tottenham still has arsenal, Chelsea and man city to play. Liverpool have Chelsea and united. With a 3 point lead. It could happen but Tottenham have a far harder task. Also could see Chelsea being the ones to Miss out the way they have been.

Very interesting game to watch. Certainly 2 points dropped from a Spurs perspective in the sense that we missed a last minute chance to take the lead.
Still, i did think that after the penalty miss and Lloris' stupid header to give Liverpool a throw in when he could have let it roll out for a goal kick, then to only gift them their 2nd goal, that we'd embarrassed ourselves so much that we didn't deserve a point.

That was until Klopp, Wenger 2.0, came on for his interview and, as always, slags off the officials. I always find him to be really rude to the interviewer, and always thinks that he knows football better than anyone else. Obviously not mate, by the letter of the law both were penalties. His attitude always puts me off any sympathy i have for them. Other managers can manage to be gracious when they don't get the result they hoped for.

Still, all in all a very good game to watch. Was pretty pleased overall how well we attacked Liverpool for 60/65 minutes and kept them defending.

Clearly a foul by VvD

Looks like a clear dive. Thrown himself into VVD, not even bothering with the ball, its a dive.

I especially like how he holds his leg like hes hurt.

yup. I like how when it happened a couple players throw up an arm claiming penalty for about 1 second then turn and continue playing because they realise the ref isn't buying it. no great shouts for penalty and then the assistant jumps in.

If we are splitting hairs and questioning the rule book you could stretch the same length and question whether Liverpool's first goal was handball when Salah controlled it with the very top of his arm?

We've had our fair share of shocking refereeing decisions go against us, this time we've got a couple that could have gone either way.
But, if we were being fair, Tottenham played the best football on the night, most possession, most shots, most passes completed, least hoofing it long ball passes, and ended up having a little rub of the green to get a point that we more than deserved.

A different angle shows both clear contact, as well as the same 2 or 3 spurs players carrying on questioning whether it's a penalty with the referee. Camera angles can deceive. One camera angle appears to show Liverpool's first goal to have been handball by Salah (which others show it possibly wasn't).

some of that's just not true. no one approaches the ref before he's stopped play or even appears to say anything. yes there's some contact but is not much and the contact is because he's seen VVD about to clear and ball and literally thrown himself at the player rather than try to get to the ball.

forgive the crappy video but I cant find many showing the lead up right now. there's no great shout for penalty from anyone.

I have to say that in real time I was convinced it was a penalty but after seeing that camera angle I think it's a pretty outrageous dive by Lamela, it looks worse the more you see it. VvD might have caught him on the back of the knee with the tip of his boot, but at best he's slightly grazed him, not enough for him to go down. It's a shame they didn't discuss it on Sky Sports with the above camera angle, I imagine they would have all had a different opinion on the pen.

The funny thing is no one has issue with the fact Lamela is running into VVD and not actually trying to play the ball. He has no control or possession of the ball so he certainly isn't just 'shielding' it. Not unlike Calvert-Lewin's dive yesterday.
