Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [2nd - 7th December 2011]

As above, Jones's dive at the weekend was beyond embarrassing yet got zero coverage. Eduardo got an absolute hammering after the Celtic dive because of all the attention it got, yet the same week Ashley Young dived twice for Villa in the Uefa Cup but it got zero coverage and he was saved the treatment Eduardo got.

Jones and Young are English though and for the same reason the media take a blind eye to every dive and elbow in the face Steven Gerrard has ever delivered in his career the media ignore it because it would be bashing one of their own.... cant do that :o

you are blinkered, he is treading down on the city player (that's the contact), he makes no attempt to go to the ball. he's trying to win a free kick by being a cheating, nasty little player. you're taking the same stance you did last night when you said liverpool players are not the only players to surround the ref, it's a case of liverpool or suarez in this case being in the wrong and you trying to justify it by turning the tables.

If Suarez has caught Kompany's foot then he's put his foot in the exact same place as Kompany, correct? If Suarez is making no effort to play the ball then surely it's the same for Kompany? Both players are going for the ball, they've made contact and Suarez has tried to win a free-kick from that.

And I'm justifying nothing. But certain people are in no place to lambast 1 player or team when they ignore there own players or team doing the same thing.

Does he kick Kompany intentionally or is it a coming together as 2 players are going for the ball (and I never said Kompany kicked him)? He's then exaggerated it and tried to win a free-kick. I'm not saying that it's right to do that but compare that to say Phil Jones's dive at the weekend and tell me what was worse.

*using the Jones one as an example because it got absolutely no attention in the media, not because he'a a Manc.

edit: And as for who's worse; any player that's gone down under no contact, which as yet, Suarez hasn't done since being with us. I could name a list but I think Utd fans might take offense when I name half their side :p

The first point is neither here nor there, but the fact that Kompany doesn't flinch and Suarez looks in a state of shock is telling.

Yes, Jones' dive was a bad one, but it's the first time I've seen him dive, or even go down easily if I remember rightly, the problem with Suarez, which we had with Eboue, is that they always look as though they could dive, and they do it regularly enough for you to cringe about it and for him to be labelled a diver/cheat/whatever is in fashion. Also, Suarez existed before Liverpool and as I'm sure you know picked up crap loads of yellows for diving in Holland, so that also counts, this isn't a comment on Liverpool but Suarez himself.

Somebody mentioned Ashley Young which is a fantastic shout, he's probably as bad as Suarez, he really is bad at it.

oh come on, it's blatently obvious what his intentions were

Anyone else other than Young?

Nani isn't English and doesn't get hammered in the press for it, he's certainly 'exaggerated' a challenge or two (though not recently).

I've never once debated that he goes down easily or that he'll look to win free-kicks etc. But considering some make him out as the worst diver in the league, there's surely 1 example of him going over under absolutely no contact. He's been here nearly a year now, he must have done it once.

His theatrics etc are bad and it's costing him decisions that he should get but he's far from being the cheat he's made out to be.

Honestly, don't you hate this horrible going down without contact culture which Suarez is single handedly responsible for polluting the premiere league with!

A new challenger appears!

Larson made a pretty bad dive for that penalty didn't he? Still yet to see Suarez go down without any contact for us.

Both players have stuck there leg out in the exact same place to a dropping ball and from that you can say that only Suarez is looking to kick the other? :o

There's no doubt that his intentions after the coming together is to try and win a free-kick though.

Nani certainly would be another 1 and he does get his fair share of attention for it. Rooney would be another :p

Thats exactly my point, the only difference between the two is SAF said about one "he doesn't dive" and about the other "he's rolling around everywhere!"
and the media jump on the bandwagon, because its easier to print "FERGIE BLASTS SUAREZ" as a headline then "NANI IS NOT A CHEAT? WE DISAGREE!" and have to actually use facts in the press for a change.

The guy was sent off for it.

In no way was in not intentional, the flick of the face and dramatic turn away is a classic dive trait.

But anyway, new challenger!

That sums Suarez up for me.

That for me is a dive
Charlie Adam against Rio Ferdinand was a dive
Jones against Villa at the weekend was a dive
Rooney against Arsenal (when we broke their undefeated run :D ) was a dive

Any time a player throws himself to the ground, minimal contact or not is a dive. It's only not a dive when the player has no control over whether they're hitting the deck or not.

I'm sure some players lets say for example RVP hit the deck without it looking like a dive all the time, that just means they're better at it than the likes of Suarez

Personally I dont get why there's such an uproar about Suarez, yes he goes to ground easily but he's not the only one and thus far he's yet to really turn a game due to his antics and tbh because of the reputation he's got I doubt he will now either

Looks very much like the Chile players knee connects with Torres' boot, that's why the Chile player breaks his stride too and from then on Torres trips over himself, definitely doesn't look like a dive, we've all done something similar before. A red though :D?
