Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [30th Dec 2011 - 4th Jan 2012]

Try being a spurs fan ;)

Redknapp only ever talks sense......pffft lol

:p

At least Redknapp is funny, Wenger just makes me cringe now. I mean Redknapps "string Tevez up, ban him from England, send him home" then a week or so later "I'd love to have him at Spurs" :p

Better than a manager saying both they KNEW his player was going to sent off, didn't do anything about it, and blamed Fulham and the ref......

They are both pretty bad these days on the touch line, Redknapp does his chicken impression, Wenger throws water bottles around.

Redknapp is buying mostly the right players and improving Spurs, Wenger has for 5-6 years been doing the reverse.

I don't admire Wenger's persaverance(someone else mentioned it earlier) as that isn't why Walcott is being played. He just has his favourites and they play no matter who else is available.

Reyes and especially Pires made Hleb look like a god damned non league player, and both got screwed in a champs league final to favour Hleb, who is utterly woeful. Song, Denilson and Diaby were favoured over guys like Flamini and Gilberto, again different leagues of players and Wenger just had his kids he decided to back with no regards for actual quality of player. Djourou got the nod from Wenger over Senderos, I remember way back when saying Djourou was a calamity and Senderos was acutally solid. He's stupidly strong, better than any of our current players in the air pretty much, he's not spectacular but he's solid. The only thing he never got at Arsenal was a decent run of games, the maybe once he really did, he was very good.

Arshavin has no place at Arsenal because Wenger took it from him, Arshavin played most games with confidence and the managers backing is by FAR our best winger in quality, with Ox having serious potential for the future. Arshavin has been crapped on by the fans and Wenger for well over a year, he was dropped for useless turds when he was in form, scoring and one of our best players.

How would say Bale feel, and play, and how much would he care if he was dropped mid last season for Walcott, despite him being massively worse, given no support from the fans or the manager, and given a few minutes here and there weeks apart, and even if he's good he knows he won't start games.

Reyes and Pires left for that reason, Arshavin wants to leave for that reason, Gilberto and Flamini, Senderos, Bendtner/Vela are trying to, Edu, Eduardo are all leaving or left for the same reasons. Arbitrarily dropped, from form, for terrible players.

Wenger is a bit of a comedy right now, but he is Arsenal....he wont leave, wont be fired...and who would want the job really? massive pressure.
It amazes me that you guys dont spend more money, its so illogical

Redknapp needs to get us a good wide man to replace Bale/Lennon if they are injured, Playing bale in this "free role" is crap, he is great on the left...so why move him?
With Lennon injured we have lost our shape, I would have played Townsend or GDS on the wing, im not sure why we havnt.

Also complete lack of rotation, Walker, BAE and Parker all look shattered.

I am much more in favour of Redknapp than I used to be, but he still could be doing much better with the squad we have imo.

That's the issue we have, finding another wideman who is happy to know he will play second fiddle to Bale - I think that is why we are continually being linked with Hoilett from Blackburn. He is young so could be used now and then.

As for the defensive side of things, agreed we could do with resting Walker and BAE sometimes, but with too many injuries recently I think it has been nearly impossible to do so. Corluka looks out of his depth at RB which is why he hasn't played, would like to see Naughton back from his loan to ease the burden on Walker in some of the lesser games. Parker needs a rest, and Sandro is a more than adequate replacement, especially against the lesser sides and when we are at home.

Might get a chance to see that tonight if Parker fails his late test.

So wait, I say the linesman has to go with what he believes he saw, and you call me on it, then repeat the same thing in slightly different words?

The linesman saw what he believed to be Barton headbutting someone, at that point it has to be a red card, that is what I said, and that appears to be what you are saying as well, really not sure what the issue is.

The fact that he maybe didn't do that is neither here nor there, you can't give decisions over what you logic out maybe really happened, refs/linesman see something they give it, sometimes they will see things incorrectly, that has been part of football since football started. The ONLY way to change this is the ability to see video replays.

apologies thought there was a negative in your quote this morning that I cant see now :)

townsend is at leeds on loan and dos santos is a liability, i expect him to go. i feel bale's free role is great. he was getting doubled and even trebled up at times on the wings, bring him into the centre and it is another string to our bow.

Townsend went on loan on the 1st of Jan, why not use him before that?

I agree Bale in the middle adds something, but it helps if he can pop out wide and then come in aswell, rather than just playing through the middle. as his pace and crosses are amazing. He can also be a bit greedy, 3/4 times now he could have passed but decided to go it alone...and missed.

good points but disagree with ashavin. he has turned into crap mate. He had LOTS of chances to impress but he never and got dropped and rightly so. Is Walcott any better then Ashavin? maybe slightly but truth be told, walcott/Ashavin are the best we have down the wings unfortuanatly.

Wenger tried to build a team like barcelona but it just diddnt work out.Wenger is a shadow of his former self. Is he really the best manager for arsenal?

Can someone like ancholloti do a better job? imo probably yes.

I don't know, I don't read the Daily Mail. My post was based on the far more reliable twitter rumour that he turned up for training worse for wear :p

he's not good enough tbh

play a player in their natural position shocker.

Id take townsend who I agree isnt 1st team material, Over VDV on the right any day. would be stupid not to. He will be a good backup, we should ahve sued him rather than plonking VDV on the right and messing the shape up

Missed two or three sessions as well apparently.

Back for Newcastle game according to a SAF interview on a radio show last night I think.

Yeah Rooney's back tomorrow, Fergie said they're working hard on getting Rio and Giggs back as well. No mention of Smalling though so one can suspect he's still out as is Cleverley, Evans, Young, Fabio, Fletcher and Vidic obviously. Oh and Owen and Bebe :p
