Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [30th Dec 2011 - 4th Jan 2012]

Apologise to who? If they're still of the belief that Evra's version of events wasn't accurate then it's no surprise they've offered him no apology.

Suarez probably should have offered a general apology for using the word Negro though. That said, I haven't seen you apologise yet for calling Evra a negro and you don't even have cultural misunderstandings to fall back on :p

In my country, 'negro' is a word we use commonly, a word which doesn't show any lack of respect and is even less so a form of racist abuse. Based on this, everything which has been said so far is totally false.

From his statement, if that is true he would have no reason to apologise for talking his own language, had it been an english sentance with negro in the middle yeah, but it wasn't.

No Nasiri tonight?

****, would have enjoyed playing against 10men.

He didn't use it in his country or to a fellow countrymen though. There's certainly an argument for apologising generally for wrongly believing the use of the term was acceptable.

As said though, if he's of the belief that Evra's version of events is BS, there's no reason to apologise to him though.

edit: and what I said about the FA Cup thing is correct too. If we beat Oldham then he'll be available for the Spurs game.

The decision not to appeal is as much tactical as anything else. He's potentailly only going to miss 3 league games.

The FA's report clearly stated that the term Negro in South America can be used with intent to offend so for Suarez to still be pulling the cultural difference card is embarrassing at best

#MCFC team to face @LFC: Hart, Richards, Kolo, Kompany, Clichy, Yaya, Barry, Silva, Milner, Aguero, Dzeko

Liverpool: Reina, Enrique, Johnson, Skrtel, Agger, Spearing, Adam, Downing, Henderson, Kuyt, Carroll. Gerrard & Bellamy on bench.

Surprised to see Kolo but he is quicker than Lescott. Dzeko hopefully has some new boots on as he was wearing concrete ones v Sunderland.

"Suarez is definitely innocent, this whole thing is ridiculous and we've been stitched up... but we're not appealing."

Liverpool, joke of a club.

He'd have been handed a minimum of a 4 game ban regardless of there being any racist or offensive intent when using the word negro. He's admitted to using it so what's the point in appealing? They don't agree with the outcome but the only thing they can appeal was the length of the ban and as I said, given the FA's history on appeals and the current climate do you think there'd have been any point in appealing?

Throw in the way the fixtures have worked out. It could potentially be worse for us to appeal and have a 4-6 game ban than to accept the 8 game ban now.

Spot on. Seems a bit daft to me that Liverpool are effectively forfeiting a trophy though (watch them knock City out now I've said that) but effectively he's only going to miss the games against City (tonight) Stoke, Bolton and Wolves and who knows an extended run in the side for Carroll against those teams may benefit Liverpool in the long run

Principles. If you think his reputation has been destroyed then have the principles and courage to stand by your convictions. To do otherwise is cowardly.

EDIT: Sorry for double post.

Reina, Enrique, Johnson, Skrtel, Agger, Spearing, Adam, Downing, Henderson, Kuyt, Carroll. Subs: Doni, Gerrard, Maxi, Carragher, Shelvey, Kelly, Bellamy.

Team news from us gutted Bellamy/Gerrard isnt starting. Adam best improve his game today not been impressed with him over all for his last couple of games tbh.

Anyone else want to post the team news? :p

Cant see Liverpool scoring with that starting XI. City to win 1-0 much like the Arsenal game.

Looks like we're going to play a similar way to the Arsenal game. Keep it tight for the first hour and then bring on Gerrard, Carroll & Maxi to try and win it late on.

edit: and it looks like Cabaye's going to be let off for his horror challenge on Spearing. Supposedly the ref saw it so nothing can be done :o

edit: I thought Carroll wasn't starting and Bellamy was? :o

The english used in the Suarez statement is far too perfect for someone claiming language differences. This could easily be ironed out by a simple apology from the club or Luis. I think it's disgusting that neither have.

A simple 'I'm sorry that I have been taken out of context' would even suffice

Our problem tonight will will be Toure vs Caroll in the air. Lescott although starting to bring mistakes back into his game may have been a wiser choice.

Just to make a point if any one 100% thinks they have done NOTHING wrong do they apologise? No (Or atleast not right after an incident or a big issue like this one) so what makes every one think he has too?

Suarez might apologise to Evra doesnt have to be made public if he does though

Rather than suspending Suarez for 8 matches, he should have to play in is underpants.

You had to do the same if you forgot your PE kit!
