Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [30th Mar - 2nd April 2012]

I can't tell from that gif, if Carroll dived, or just fell over himself, being the useless donkey that he is. :D

The ball's got stuck under his feet and he couldn't get his shot away so he went down looking for a pen.
Had some luck with the pen first half but ref was good apart from that.

That's easy for you to say :p

Perch should have been sent off right at the end for pulling back Suarez, the offside goal and Ben Arfa's dive not resulting in a booking. I thought they were pretty poor.

Absolutely pathetic.

I can't decide whether he dived or fell over the ball there.

I don't think Liverpool have a huge amount to complain about in regards to diving, I don't think Carroll lost the ball all game without throwing himself to the ground at the same time, won a few freekicks, got a yellow card and he most certainly dived in the box once more but got straight back up probably hoping no one made a big deal out of it, which they didn't.

Reina, stupid, and he wasn't going to face up with anyone there was a distinct action of a headbutt, and not a "baby" headbutt where two guys show their gay love by touching forheads in an affectionate way, he jarred his head forward and for the ref's the real time angle, and the first replay all looked like contact, only the one side on later showed there was no contact. It's a red card for the action, not the result, Perch was a twerp but I can't remember the last time someone got a yellow card for the same thing.

For me the later "pull" on Suarez looked more of a dive than a pull back, and given the game was over and Suarez's diving nature I think the ref just wasn't willing to give someone a red card in that situation.

In terms of football, Liverpool were awful as soon as Newcastle started to play which was about 15 mins in, from then till the end there was only one team in the game. Ba hasn't banged them in as much since Cisse's arrival but his link up play with the whole team and especially Cisse has been exceptional. Cisse wouldn't have scored half as many without him playing as well as he has done, absolutely fantastic partnership.

Tiote was bang on form, he was excellent till the Acon, looked not as on form since he came back I had thought but was absolutely at his best today. Except in the dying stages he tried to pass forwards most of the time, won the ball ridiculously often, even considering 3-4 fantastic tackles or just winning the ball cleanly were given as fouls that shouldn't have been. Cabaye was maybe the only player who wasn't fantastic today for Newcastle, and he still wasn't bad just a few too many overhit throughballs and cheaply giving it away.

liverpool, not a single stand out player, basically everyone was awful.

KD shouldnt even need sacking he says he wants to always do best by us he should leave of his own accord, then some one else comes in gets rid of Carroll/Downing/Adam get some Good players in.

Sort heads out of our current players..If that happens we have some hope next year if we dont then nothing will help.

I'm not sure about poor, it wasn't the referee that didn't give the offside for example.

I think they were inconistent though, made some good decisions and some bad ones.

Shouldn't Perch have been sent off for tripping up Reina (cynical - yellow), and then diving and getting him sent off?

That said not that it'd change the match, the only one that would have was the penalty and we maybe would have carried on from there but very doubtful.

I hope we win the FA Cup but it doesn't paper over the cracks in the owners eyes, it is obvious what needs done.

They are supposed to make the right decision the majority of the time, they got a lot of big ones wrong today between them, but as I said, the second goal, Perch red card would have done nothing in all likelihood, the blatant handball/red card on the line though could have helped us.

It's a classic Liverpool dive, look at his left foot, the right foot doesn't matter. When he goes down the weight is going onto his left foot, the only thing he has to do is plant his left foot.... he "Gerrard'd" it, and just lifted his left rather than planting it and went down. It was a clear as day dive, and he did one more in the box and a crapload elsewhere on the pitch.

I thought Gutierrez was getting to the ball first when I initially saw it but looking at that he kicks the ball towards him after he's rounded Kruul.

I think now he just got caught in two minds and somehow chose wrongly to dive.

Does anyone know what Dalglish's league form is compared to Hodgeson's?

Great game, even better result. I beleive Liverpool got what they deserved. Yes, it was a penalty but it was difficult for both ref (view blocked) and linesman(sun in his eyes) to call it. And Reina has only himself to blame.
Well done the Toon.

Haven't seen this posted anywhere else, but after Tummy's comments about the Preston game yesterday, I thought this was quite interesting.

Preston boss Graham Westley has claimed that four of his squad leaked the team's tactics to Sheffield Wednesday ahead of their 2-0 defeat on Saturday.

“When you have got people in your own camp working against you it is tough”
Graham Westley Preston manager

After the game, Westley said the Owls bench had told him that they had known about Preston's line-up and game-plan before kick-off.
The 44-year-old said: "That shows you what we are up against.
"It doesn't surprise me. When you have got people in your own camp working against you it is tough."

Is the Preston manager just a bit of a fool? ....I don't really know anything about him. Players are obviously denying it.

They are but not many referee's or officials get everything right all the time and people (Pundits and commentators especially) jump all over them while often ignoring mistakes or bad decisions by players.

Not that I'm defending the officials, they made mistakes and missed a couple of things but they also got some things spot on.
