Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [31st August - 1st September 2019]

Not sure what Neville's talking about when he said both sides answering questions. Spurs threw away a 2 goal lead and Arsenal are still making braindead mistakes which will keep costing them goals.
My thoughts exactly, hopefully Spurs now pay the players what they want or solve whatever the issues are in the club as there are certainly some.

Guendouzi motm for me, great assist and looks so comfortable on the ball. Kid is only 20 and looks completely unfazed against big teams, big future ahead for him.

Not worried at all about Pepe, Burnley Liverpool Spurs isn't exactly the easiest introduction to the PL. We've got a good run of games coming up so I fully expect him to start converting his chances.

That game was frustrating - did well to get back to 2-2, but shouldn't have been 2-0 down in the first place.

Emery really can't have any excuse for giving Xhaka starts over Ceballos or Willock given how rash he continues to be and how he's a ditherer in a team that has the potential to do a lot of things quickly. If it's for his experience... there's not a lot of it on show is there?

Laca took a bit of time to get going before he started to really produce, don't expect Pepe will be any different.

It took Henry 9 games to score his first goal.

Guendouzi was my star today. He is going to be an elite player. Such composure and ability at such a young age. Need to tie him down to a longer contract, as his values going to skyrocket in the next couple of years.

Agree with Jamie Redknapp too, the NLD is the best derby. Every games a cracker.

Arsenal supporter here so forgive the bias. I completely agree on the brain dead mistakes part - the Leno one was bad but forgivable considering some of the saves he made later in the game. The Xhaka one is something we've seen over and over again, god awful challenge in the box, mentally checking out when it matters the most.

I would argue though that we showed more spirit in this game than we traditionally have when things are going against us, 2-0 down against a Top 4 team, those games have had a habit of turning into 4-0's and 5'0's over the past few years. We showed a bit more fight than I've come to expect, but that could also be because it was the NLD.

I think the fact it was a derby and the atmosphere helped - you came back from behind to beat Spurs in the same game last year. Watching the game summed up pretty much where both sides are - Arsenal will keep gifting sides silly goals and Spurs are just weird. I can't recall a side that swing between being fantastic and close to crisis point quite likes Spurs have over the last couple of years.

I wouldn't disagree, we'd have to stage a comeback like that against a team other than Spurs before I'd make a case for truly having answered some questions. I'm hopeful that our first choice eleven will be a bit less **** in the gifting goals department - Xhaka, Kolasinac and AMN probably won't get anywhere near the team if we have everybody fully fit. Could argue that either Sokratis or Luis gets dropped also.

I'm not going to jump on Kane for the dive, cheating is rife in the game, every side out there has players that look for fouls, it would be hypocritical to criticise Kane when I've seen many Arsenal players do it over the years. The only thing that really irks me is the double standards in the media when it comes to the England captain.

Maitland-Niles isn’t a RB, he’s just the only fit player who can play there. He’s a midfielder by trade and I’d still give him a chance to prove himself once Bellerin is back.

We’re woefully short at that position though.

Id expect Papa to get dropped in favour of Holding, and then Luiz dropped once Saliba joins.

I wouldn’t drop papa for Holding.

Dermot Gallagher's explanation of Villa's disallowed goal and VAR below. Basically as soon as the ref believed that Grealish dived he has to make the decision there and then, rather than allow play to continue and refer back to the incident, as VAR cannot be used to make a decision on the dive. VAR would have only checked for an offside or foul by a Villa player in the build-up to the goal, therefore had Grealish been guilty of diving, VAR wouldn't have disallowed the goal.

The only question is, once the ref gave the free-kick for a dive, why didn't VAR overturn it and award a pen as it probably was a foul and I guess, as we saw last week, the margin of error needed to overturn the decision wasn't met.
