Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [5th - 6th November 2011]

from the sounds of it that was a might good game

Mancini's men (or should that be boys? :)) must be mightily relieved at getting that win

Well done QPR, Gave us a real fight. Thankfully we came out with the 3 points but it was very tough and today we just lacked in every department.

Not sure if it was no Kompany or the european hangover but either way we just didn't look like title challengers.

If you'd told me after 11 games of the season the toughest game would be QPR away, and especially if you'd told me that after all I've seen of QPR this season, I'd have bet you any money it wouldn't be. Still, another 3 goals scored :D Came from behind, which we almost never did last season, after an away trip to Spain.. And hey, at least we won with goals we actually scored :p Always good to come out of a hard battle like that with a win, makes me all the more confident we can really go the distance this season. We were never going to win every game by 3-4 clear goals.

Tremendous result for Newcastle again, mega impressed. How was that game?

Im afraid to say title challengers is exactly what you DID look like today. Tough away game, tight ground, not playing well and opponents up for it. 3 points gained and job done. These are the title winning games when you look back on the season.

If Liverpool dont make the CL this season it wont be the big games they will look back on it will be games like today when they couldnt eek out the 1-0 win and get the 3 points.

Apparently we were fairly hopeless today but again we picked up the three points and now have 2 weeks to sort ourselves out.

I suppose you can look at it like that, i am just used to us steam rolling teams now :D

We did show good character and that final cutting edge to get back into the game and like Adrian said we came from behind which is encouraging.

.

To be fair Liverpool can look at the big game against Utd for the start of the present run of droping 2 points at home over three consecutive matches , when if they had taken their chances....they would have a handful more points on the board

I agree about the City game though

Like I said, we were never going to steam roller everyone by a 3 goal margin. Our league is the best because that doesn't really happen. We'll no doubt have a few more high scoring games but teams will try different things against us, some will work, some won't. One things for sure, that wasn't the same QPR that nearly gave up a 1-0 lead to a 9 man Chelsea, nor could barely fashion half a decent chance against Spurs. They really fought today.

I am still confident City wont keep this up for a full season although im ever increasingly impressed with the way Mancini has them working.

Im looking for an Asprilla-esque signing in Jan which rather then seeing them secure the title will actually unbalance the team completely!

To me this season is going the exact same way as last season in that Chelsea were battering teams left right and centre with no one taking into account the fixtures they've played. Dont get me wrong winning at Spurs and OT were big results for them but would City score 5 at WHL if they played the game tomorrow? No, they caught Spurs at a good time. Would they have scored 6 against us if it had stayed XI a side? of course they wouldn't, in fact something that is often overlooked in the derby is that City scored their first against the run of play and MOTM Richards was given the right run around by Young in the first half

If come the new year City still have a 5 point lead having played Arsenal, Chelsea & Liverpool then they really will be rightly thought of as favourites at the moment though the majority of their fixtures have been very favourable

I still think it's unwise to rule Chelsea out as well as however poorly they may be doing mid season they always end up in the mix come May

I wouldnt rule out Chelsea BUT i would say they are less equiped to come back from a poor run with AVB in charge than if they had stuck with Ancelotti. AVB really has no experience of being anything other than a complete success in his short managerial career. It will be interesting to see how he copes with a bit of adversity. I actually like him but i still struggle to see how he got the job - you dont let the guy who has just passed his test drive your new Ferarri. And if you do, dont complain if he crashes.

It's not just AVB that's done it though, I'm thinking back to the Avram Grant days, Arsenal looked favourites for the title for much of that season but come the end it was Chelsea that was pushing us all the way

Up till now at least it doesn't matter who's in charge Chelsea are always there. They've also got the ability to spend £££'s in January if things aren't going according to plan as well
