Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [5th - 6th November 2011]

We could talk about how everyone thought that Newcastle had imploded when they released Joey Barton and made some other decisions, and now they have infact fared very well this season.

Everyone? Not me ;)

That's it. Close the forum. We're done here. We've hit the peak, it's all downhill from here.

EDIT: Arsenal team: Mertesacker dropped to the bench! Vermaelen starts with Kos. Everyone else as last week.

It's fairly odd, and good, Kos/verm looked a good partnership pre-injury and Mertesacker hasn't put in a single performance, even when drubbing a crap team he's looked slow, poor at reading the game and most importantly, worthless at all set pieces which is the single reason Wenger bought him.

Its a bit of a shame we have a guy on 80k a week, who isn't very good and doesn't offer us options. I mean, lets say we play Stoke and some teams would choose a big CB good in the air vs their normal CB for a game like that. What game is Mertesacker good for, games against Shrewsbury, at 80k a week he's no where near good enough. Problem being, if we wanted to get shot of him and bring in someone else, who on earth would pay us for Mertesacker and who would offer him the same or better wage to persuade him to move.

Oh well :(

Were did this newcastle side come from :s Credit to them there doing bloody awesome

Well last year I saw, no striker/Carroll and Barton being the playmaker, realistically all of Barton's assists(well the majority) came from set pieces, open play Newcastle didn't have the creativity and Barton gave away needless free kicks constantly and was generally a disruptive influence.

They had a decent defence with a couple very strong players, an emerging keeper, a fantastic DM, a fantastic winger and a few prospects for the wing. Add a striker, and a real creative attacking central mid and well, that's exactly what the team needed, that's what they got, and they've improved significantly

Poor game, poor performance, great win!

Missing Cabaye (after 20mins) Tiote and Obertan it was a great performance.

Shows the limitations of our squad but if they play with that spirit they can still get good results!

Great job lads! Second top :D

Would've been a different game if at 60 minutes we were 2-2 against 10 men...

It's hard scoring goals past a team with 2 goalkeepers.

hmm Losing those players shows we have decent squad still getting the win :) Good job we get an international break now though

Man Utd: Lindegaard, Jones, Ferdinand, Vidic, Evra, Nani, Fletcher, Rooney, Park, Welbeck, Hernandez. Subs: De Gea, Evans, Berbatov, Carrick, Fabio Da Silva, Valencia, Diouf.

Rooney in the middle again, think I would have just stuck Park/Anderson in the centre and played Rooney up front but there we go.

To be fair we were battered though :)

True but thoses players still came in and did a job. Our team where completely out on their feet at the end of the second half but still managed to do enough to hang on for the win. Ben won a couple of vital free kicks to wind down that clock.
