Greenlizard0 Weekend Football Thread ** spoilers ** [6th - 8th November 2015]

Chelsea are.........in 16th place  never thought I'd see that :D

To the Mata 'haters':

Since debuting for Manchester United, Juan Mata has been involved in more PL goals than any other player at the club (30).

Is there such a thing?
He's so fine...

It's been mentioned a few times in previous threads but also:

Even when someone sets the dinner table and does the aeroplane right to his mouth inside the box he still can't hit the target. I just don't get it. Last match he was subbed for being so ineffective and this match he starts again?

Biggest waste of 37 million we've made i think. After losing money on di maria ofc.

I suppose not many people pay attention to RM's posts so perhaps you missed it.

Great. And it'd probably be better if he was played in the middle and not put out wide so the team's hamstrung by his lack of pace. No one's ever denied he's a quality player, just that if he's played out of position he's less effective himself and also costs the team... that doesn't mean he won't still score and assist.

Agreed.

To add, what tickles me more at the comment about "biggest waste of money" is when you actually engage your brain (assuming it works) and consider some of the flops we've had and how much they cost....Anderson cost >£20mill in 2007, for example. Nani...

I'd be wanting to leave in his shoes. He's being wasted right now and at some point they are going to buy a proper winger pushing him to the bench. His only hope for the future with Man U is if Rooney gets relegated to second string or sold, neither of which are likely to happen over the next couple of years.

Leave and go where?
If he wants to win things that matter (which I'm pretty sure is all he cares about) where could a player of his quality and history go now that would enhance his chances of doing that?

PSG - Unlikely
Monaco - No
RM - No
Barca - Unlikely
Man.City - No
Arsenal - No
Chelsea - Lol
Liverpool - Lol
Man. U. - Wait... yeah maybe he can.

Spurs wishful thinking in both respects :(

Shearer: "That's a certain penalty".

You don't have to make contact for there to be a foul.

so are we gonna give hundreds of freekicks every game from now on everytime a winger "jumps" a challenge and carries on his run down the line :rolleyes:

No, if the player continues he will be given advantage.

Remy managed to continue, but he was clearly impeded to the point he was like a drunk donkey and barely got a shot away.

You see it fairly often, a player will hurdle a sliding tackle, land and fall over. No contact, but it's still a foul.

as I say

NO CONTACT

tell me how NO contact constitutes a foul

The laws of the game say it's a foul if you trip or attempt to trip and/or charge at an opponent - no mention of there needing to be contact.

Put it this way, Butland makes a challenge for the ball, he doesn't get it and as a result of the challenge Remy's impeded - why isn't that a foul?

edit: this was debated 8-9 years back when Gerrard was awarded a pen in the exact same circumstances - the defender lunged in on him, misses but forced Gerrard to hurdle the challenge and stumble as a result, he got his shot off but the ref pulled it back and gave the pen. Iirc some ex refs said at the time that a pen was the correct decision.
